I generally really like what Cooler Master is doing. So far, they seem to have focused on quality and (useful) features where other gaming brands mainly focused on giving their products a shape and color that will appeal to the "gamer". But I think they missed the mark with this one for me when it comes to the way it looks (now watch it become their best sold peripheral).

Honestly, this looks decent if it was not for the shape. Somehow I have the urge to take a hacksaw and cut it into a rectangular shape. Not just for aesthetic purposes, but I just like keyboards with a small footprint and this thing seems huge (full 104 keys + a couple of inches on every side)

W...why. It's huge, obnoxiously shaped, has a nonstandard bottom row, and the aluminum isn't even a significant percentage of the keyboard. Looks like someone put aluminum can thickness metal over the top.

Come back with a OFR (nice rectangle, standard caps,  etc) with a SOLID metal case. I seriously don't get this partially metal stuff. It's like "how can we incorporate metal, without any of the benefits of metal".

This is what will 'sell' so this is what they make. They also make the QFR, XT etc for those who want a 'normal' keyboard.

I think this is an example of the disconnect between keyboard enthusiasts and gaming enthusiasts with regard to choice in style. I'm sure it will sell, because gamers think it looks cool, and edgy, flashy designs are what matters to them (in most cases). I think there is a convergence of these two markets (albeit a small one), but few manufacturers seem to hit the mark with their products. This is the type of stuff I was struggling with while being a computer enthusiast. I prefer understated designs and clean aesthetics, but I'm also a gamer. This is clearly marketed toward the younger gamer crowd, but I wouldn't consider it to be a "direction" they're moving in. They're competing with the other major gaming peripheral mfg (Razer, Corsair, etc).

I wonder if the edges of that aluminum top plate would get very annoying over time, given that it's not flush with the integrated wrist rest.

And as an MX Black user, I'm not sure about how I feel about CM's policy of "people who don't know anything buy your switch when it's not appropriate for them, so we're just going to make it unavailable to everyone."

Don't like it.  The only appealing part is the brushed aluminum look.  That's about it =/  Otherwise it's hideously oversized for no good reason.

Then it would just be a normal keyboard..

So you've essentially just said:

I don't like it, if it were what I liked, I'd like it.

WHICH was already summarized by   "I don't like it"

I wonder if the macro keys are also mechanical.

Anyway the irregular shape kinda kills it for me.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yeah I think the macros keys are mechanical.  I'm gonna take an educated guess and say it's made by iOne, and at least iOne doesn't do those half mechanical/rubber dome thing so should be safe to assume it's all mechanical.

Actually now that I look at it, I wonder if they modified off Blackwidow to make this edition.  The layout is essentially the same maybe throw in a new controller for hardware macro?

Did Mad Catz purchase Cooler Master?

Seems like it :P
Not enough LED screens for showing important ingame intel.

Damn, I miss those screens!

I call bull**** on the fact that ANYONE has ever actually used those screens... It makes zero sense to look down and away from the main screen.

I would use those screens for a clock. It wouldn't hurt to have another clock around when using a full screen application.

This is most likely the ugliest keyboard I have ever seen.  Even worse than some of the worst unicorn vomit boards.
