What vampire FPS games are there?

I've played Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines many times as different clans and with different approaches.

Are there any other similar vampire games out there?

Prefer FPS and single player.  Third person if I absolutely have to, but most of those have problems with camera position.

Newer or older games are fine, but my hardware won't run anything too recent.

You can easily play the role in Elder Scroll games and I believe there's one on XBLA but I can't remember what it's called.

Best vampire experience, to be really honest so far has been in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim  (Dawngaurd expansion). Played Skyrim on the PC (many times...)

Also they do a good job of warewolves in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of The Year Edition !! Vampires too.

I play these games in third person but playing in first person is also great and sometimes absolutely necessary (sneaking sometimes requires third person, IMO.)

I waited for like two years for the Skyrim Legendary package to appear, then go on sale cheap enough to justify it... and frankly, I found it mildly disappointing.


The vampire questline does not allow you to choose the option which could be seen as the most 'let's stick it to the mortals'.

While you schlep around a vampire noble for many of these quests, in spite of the expansion which allows you to choose a wife and form a family, you can't do that with the noblewoman.


OTOH, even a mid-class gaming PC will be able to run it with all bells and whistles

I had a quick look at the game outline (heard of Skyrim, but not Dawnguard), and it's not really what I was looking for.

VtMB lets you play as a vampire, interacting mostly with other vampires while the cattle, er humans, wander around oblivious for the most part.

I also noticed they've been advertising a new title on Steam called 'Dark', but that's pretty much all I know of it. I suspect it's one of those behind-the-shoulder games, but since it's 40 bucks and I have never bought a Steam game at less than forty percent discount, I can't tell you more.

I've seen that one - it looks interesting.  But unfortunately probably needs a more powerful computer than I have at the moment

For the record; Dark got slaughtered by every reviewer I pay attention to, it did not get a warm welcome. But I suppose it's playable if you're really desperate for a vampire game.

There really isn't much... there is the Dusk Till Dawn game, and one called Nosferatu Wrath of Malachi, but both are mostly just generic FPS that happens to have vampires. Both of these are 10+ years old so you shouldn't have much trouble running them if you can find them in the first place. Might be worth looking for some total conversion mods of other games.
Also if you don't mind adventure game, the Dracula Ressurection series is OK as far as those kind of games go.

Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi sounds similar - playing a human trying to escape the vampires.

Perhaps a mod of some sort might be the way to go.

Well the Mac mini isn't bad for a Mac and if you ran Bootcamp would actually run rings around that pathetic old P4, even in terms of graphics I would imagine.


As for the old box, I still see a lot of those old systems in offices, they were quite good for the time. Unfortunately,  I'm seeing an increase in them failing now. You could upgrade it for about $100 to a quad AMD with built in video capable of modern games and for a bit over $200 you could replace the whole box. You could probably get $60-$100 on Craigslist or Ebay for it.

Tried Bootcamp - the CPU is better, but the graphics leaves a bit to be desired as it is 256M shared with the main memory.

I have Portal and Half-Life 2 installed under Steam on both, and there really isn't much between them.  The P4 probably has the slight edge, most likely due to the dedicated graphics card (which is PCI express and thus upgradeable - something I might do if I can find one at the right price).

I am actually considering upgrading the Mac mini at some stage, with rumours of a new line of Macs coming out in September.  With a Core i5 (or maybe even i7) CPU it will piss all over what I have now.  Graphics in the current mini is Intel Integrated 4000, the next generation is rumoured to have Intel Integrated 5000 which again should be much faster than what I have now, even if it is integrated.

Yep, looking at your two systems, I can understand why you are severely limited in terms of the games you want to, and can play with those rigs. Source games may be manageable with an upgraded graphics card on the P4.....still, it's a P4 and that CPU is kind of long in the tooth by now. I was going to suggest that with a budget of about 1000USD, you can build a rig that would run circles 'round both your present rigs......but then, you're down under and hardware isn't exactly cheap. Same here in Asia, but I've built rigs over the years that could max out every mutha lovin' games out at the time, and with my three present rigs (two CF'ed, one SLi'ed), I've grown tired of the relentless pursuit of hardware upgrades.....got kind of nuts when I blew a few thousand on my main rig, decided enough was enough, my rigs would last me years so I've given up on hardware upgrades and focused on keyboards. But then, the same old habit rears its ugly head, bought my 2nd mechanical KB in April, now nearing the end of August, I have 15 KB's, soon to be 17 since I'd be getting a YOTS Cherry Blue tomorrow, and a Leopold FC660M Cherry Clear prolly a week later.....I just do NOT know how to stop myself.

I grow weary of collecting PC parts.  Moving house atm and shifting that lot is a huge pain.

Hence Macs - they are generally not upgradable, so no boxes of spare parts lying around.

I try to buy a machine that will last me 4 to 5 years - this Mac is coming up for 4 years in November, and it does everything fine except games.  A newer model would let me play games released within the last few years, and that will be fine for another 4-5 years (when I can repeat the cycle).  Buying games 4 years after release also provides opportunity to save money as they are usually heavily discounted by that stage.

I can get a reasonable gaming rig for under $1000 here in Australia, but I can get a good gaming machine for around $1500.

The only problem is: I don't have that $1000 to spend

Why not get some second hand socket 1156 stuff or something? Should be able to get a pretty good deal on something along those lines and maybe a 560ti or similar for $300ish. Still plenty good for gaming with current games at 1080p.

waht... no.. don't get second hand 1156..

if anything second hand 1155.   make sure to check the "real power phase count" on the board you buy.

Sandy gen 2 is easier to work with than Ivy gen 3.

P67 Z68 Z77 are the chipsets you want.

Do not get any of the "budget" version of those boards,  all have poor overclock stability unless you run very high-voltage.

Yep, a 2nd hand LGA1155 SB i5 like the 2500K will see you thru a few years of great gaming.....if you are only concerned with gaming. For video editing, encoding and such, it'd still run circles 'round the C2D and P4. You don't need to go mid range GPU if you don't want to, a HD7790 would more than suffice in many games at Medium to High setting. SB are absolutely a breeze to OC with the right board, my 3960X can do 4.5ghz on stock/default voltage on my Asus R4E, though I have back down to 3.9ghz simply because I do not need that extra speed. My nephew has an i7 2600K + Asus Z68 + HD6990 which I had built for him some 2 years back and he can still max out many games (having the HD6990 helps, ain't going lie about that ). You can always go the AMD route if that's cheaper, I have an FX8350 @ 4.5ghz and it kills in games and video encoding/ripping. But, to get the most out of an FX8320 (for example), you'd want a 990FX chipset mobo, these tend to cost a little more....

OKOK... here's what you do... doll up, and sell your body into "fetish" services, it pays way more than standard.

I would either go with a used I5 or go for one of the new high end AMD processors with built in video card.

If you go Intel, with a bit of planning ahead, you could do a Hackintosh. Done right, it's almost as easy as setting up an actual Mac.
On the other hand, with the AMD, you could go mini-ITX and put the whole thing in a case smaller than a shoebox. Amd can work for Hackintosh, but it's more difficult.

Done AMD (an Athlon 64 3200+ served as the base of my gaming from when Doom 3 came out) - I prefer Intel.

Hackintosh - with the continual worry that the next update will break the machine?

I like the Mac mini form factor and very light power consumption and plan to upgrade to a new Mac mini at some stage, hopefully late this year or early next year.  I'll see when whether it will run the games I have accumnulated over the last year or two (including recent Humble Bundles).

Then I'll decide whether to build/buy a new gaming rig.
