****.  I may have just accidentally killed my phone by somehow launching it five feet into the toilet bowl.  I didn't see any bubbles come up and the phone itself didn't appear wet or to be leaking anything when I pulled it out almost immediately.  Fingers crossed that it lives.

chuck it in a sack of rice and leave it for a week

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Life goes on - in a few years you may not even remember, or if you do then you will be older and wiser and see it as the life experience that it was.

Was it a Clack or a Bro raffle?

County switched from maintaining the network in house to using an outside vendor.  We have had nothing but problems since and, from my understanding, they are well over budget.  We're currently on our second day of network outage and 90% of my office work requires access to the network and internet.

Sounds like the AT&T/Frontier merger here in my state. Has been nothing but a cluster**** for the 2 years it's been going on for.

As for what's bothering me: " Hey man, hows it going? Been a while! Hey so listen my computer is doing this thing..."

It seems I have contracted the buyer's insanity. Wanna buy a 55g RF. Building a conspiracy about how not to let the wife know.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Geekhack used to be much more fun.

But I’m too busy now to have fun talking to you all.

In the past, I did a lot of small transactions. I have sold at least 200 people keycaps, parts or switches on this forum. It was a little hobby thing. I’m sure many of you will remember, when I transact with you I always talk, and sometimes we talk politics or philosophy or stuff like that. It’s always interesting to engage someone from a very different country or culture. It was never really about the stuff I sold.

Do you think I make money from selling people 25 cherry MX clears or 1 small pack of LEDs? Whatever I made usually went into a small giveaway after that. It was really about engaging different people, getting to talk in a setting very different from my work and daily life. I got to know and exchange thousands of words with Mougrim from Ukraine for instance. In my work and daily life, I haven’t met a Ukranian for a very long time.

But now I don’t have time for that. Work life, family life, household problems (house is now a disaster zone), all take up my time and energy. Transacting is not fun anymore.

In the past I just did once a week shipping. But now, I’ve never been so eager to ship. At least 30 people have 3 or more items in their orders, and most of them change their orders at least 2 times. Especially after I dropped prices. And I have tons of troll buyers who promise to pay but nothing comes of it. Or they say they don’t want, then come back and ask for something, then change their minds again just to mess with my head. My notes are now a disaster zone.

I want to ship just to stop people changing orders.

This whole month has not been pleasant for me. That’s why I’m getting family members to ship stuff earlier. We want everything out of the house asap. And after this I’m going to take a long, long, long, long break from Geekhack.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.
