I have less than $14, IDK how I'm even going to eat this week.

Beans + Rice + Green leafy veggie.

Tp4 been eating mostly that for 7+ years now.  Average cost per meal, not including fuel, ~$1.50

You can probably do ramen / mac/cheese / peanut butter,  But that stuff will give you cancer, and create enough malaise as to make you horribly unproductive.

I have no idea where, or how you shop, but going by the cheapest grocery store and sorting to the absolutest cheapest items you've mentioned, the total on that would be around $5 (beans-1.5, canned spinach 1, rice 2.5+ .50c tax(not sure if this is accurate for local tax included) + 2.75 round trip bus fare
I can afford that, sure, but the math is way off for where I live. I WISH food were that affordable around here.

Oh, sorry. You specified PER MEAL. That is probably correct. My brain isn't working properly right now.

canned spinach

Ugh! I don't think that I have ever eaten canned spinach in my life, Popeye notwithstanding. Bunches of fresh are going for about $1.40 around here and that is 2 meals.

Beans and rice should be bought in at least 5-10 pound bags, larger sizes are usually incrementally much cheaper than small bags, and frozen vegetables are usually the way to go.

Various forms of sauces and salsas can really brighten up a rice+beans meal, and of course soy sauce is almost always a plus.

Also, brown the rice ever so slightly in a bit of oil before you boil it and it is much less boring.

Go to a food pantry. Seriously. No shame in getting help. There's probably also people there who can help point you in the direction of getting employment. I don't know where you're at but my mom works for a nonprofit that does this. There's definitely options in your area

You have to be very careful around social-support outlets in the USA.  There are sketchy people there preying on young women AND men.

These networks of trafficking/ sex-work are deeply interconnected, an unfortunate situation.

It could be a regular guy handing out boxed lunch, and then when they see a pretty girl come by a few times, they smooth talk them into something like modeling or some benign sounding gig. And well, you know where this goes.

They look completely normal, and outwardly, it seems like they care. TRUST no one, especially where there exists desperation.  This kind of thing even happens in smaller rural communities.

I need to find the kool-aid you're drinking.

I'm talking about verifiable non profits and proper food banks. Not just some random schmuck handing out food or help.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.    The food bank = real.  Most of the people there = good people.  SOME of the people there,  are part of the trafficking network.

Where there is desperation,  there will be predators, and this network is extremely advanced.. Epstein had his own charities/ school donations to funnel girls through.

As for what coolaid Tp4 is drinking. Tp4 has spoken to and met many of these guys. They're all very high lvl bosses, then they use their cover businesses to launder the money from the illegitimate ones. These operations are international. Japan is one of the largest consumers, internationally, the Yakuza has been at it the longest.

And rest assured, there is no stopping it, because the customer base is at the highest level of corporate and political.

If they wanted to stop it, it'd be trivial in the digital age. The only reason it still goes on, is because "THEY" want it so.

It's not a conspiracy,  based on Tp4's observation, once a person or groups' wealth exceeds a certain threshold, it naturally "dehumanizes" their personality, as these groups now operate without consequences.

If you work your way up the money ladder,  EVERYONE knows it's going on. The wives/ the (older kids). They all know this is happening. It's completely normal to that socioeconomic class.

Even very on the surface, when the Ukraine crisis happened, even in the UK, the News cycle reported traffickers and pimps began hawkeye-ing the refugee landing zones. Single men suddenly signed up in droves to host refugees.

Extreme-Wealth necessarily creates Extreme-Poverty (Wars),  where there is Reliable-Poverty, there is the Trafficking network.

If you look a bit beneath the façade of Civil-Society, you'd see, it's not cordial, and that insulation is paper thin.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

When they remaster a 4:3 film into 16:9,  It's just awful, they should make this illegal.

Hrrrm..

We'd need an extremely good cable to do 8K faithfully, without resorting to DSC.

DP 2.1 cables are already dodgy enough as it is. Heck even hdmi 2.1 cables are dodgy at 48Gbit.

8K is quite a bit more than even UHBR20, 4 lanes only going up to 80Gbit.

Future cables will probably have to be an optical standard to be reliable.

I tried watching Boy Meets World with my daughter last night and the video quality is very bad, especially blown up on a large TV. Make shows look better, not different.

Why even wurk NT, that's what Tp4 always says, it's all for nothing, this capitalism is only accelerating the climate apocalypse.

People have the notion that, this business or that business is doing harm to the environment. It's far worse, it's the very concept of profit, the entirety of the system which humans use to benchmark their progress is WRONG.

The entirety of the marketplace and market-psychology is designed around Burning more "Stuff" and Killing more animals.

We build machines to fatten animals, to slaughter them, to burn them.

We fatten up the humans at Mcdonalds, then slaughter them too at the Cathedral of Heart Disease, /Hospital.

The insidiousness of our existence is Far More Fundamental than fossil fuels = bad.
Anthropocentricity itself is the problem.

I have to pay bills, afford food, and cover rent. I have no outside support, poor family, no side hustle, no assets. I work cause I have to.
Even if I won the lotto, I'd still probably work. I'd just be able to create the actual job I'd want and love, rather than being forced to do something I hate.
Must be nice to be in money, or have family influence, and just buy your way into the career of your choice with little to no effort. Not everyone has that luxury, hence I keep running across braindead morons who cannot do the simplest task their positions require of them.

Tp4 has not meant to poopoo the NTurt's facts of life,  merely saying, quite factually, even to do nothing is better for the future of humanity than serving the destructive capitalism.

Warehouse work's pretty consistent. Have you tried there.

I am surprised that nobody, including Apple, haven't come out with a stream box that caches movies/shows locally (I know you can get offline copies on mobile devices). But what I mean is there is so much content lost due to compression/livestream data transfer. I want Disney to allow me to save an uncompressed copy of the movie to play locally vs stream. No buffering, no weird black splotches, etc. All the benefits of physical media, without the distribution and cumbersomeness of a media collection.

They have that, it's called Kaleidescape, you get the full 4k bluray bitrate file for stashing locally. You pay the full bluray price per movie though, so it's for Rich People only.  How Rich, well, there's a Buy All button on their site. $$$ 90,000

There's also a similar service called Bravia Core by Sony, but it has a much more limited movie selection.

There's also a similar service called Bravia Core by Sony, but it has a much more limited movie selection.

Sounds very similar to those rich folks who can rent/screen movies that are only in theaters in their homes with their fancy, rich people licensing.

Visited a heavily kimchi'n family today. The wife's got a whole fridge dedicated to the different varieties she's made.

Snooped their medicine cabinet while there, yet again, the tell-all blood pressure medications.

Just sayn' guys, take it easy on the Chi, there is such a thing as too much.

Just noticing the ominous signs of eco system death.

This whole summer, it's been quiet, super super quiet.  Very few crickers / birds / evening/mornings.

Tp4 had a mice problem this year in the garden, biting up the tomatoes.  Suspect, the larger predators are dead/ unsustainable in the ecosystem, therefore, mice-overrun.

Plague situation incoming ? Remember when they got rid of the cats in the middle ages ?

What's with asian people and ginseng, they think it's magic, when it literally cures NOTHING.

It's just a caffeine alternative.
Is it healthier than caffeine? You be the judge, but it does the same thing.

I wouldn't say so. There are similar compounds to caffeine in tea, guarana and yerba mate but ginseng does not contain  anything similar.

BTW. There is also a difference between East-Asian ginseng and "Indian Ginseng" ("Ashwagandha").
The latter is only somewhat related to the first, but more associated with positive health effects. It is also considered more of a sedative than a stimulant.

The original Las Vegas water intake was higher up than the California intake and had to be redone in order to keep flowing (completed a few years ago), if it had remained where it was they would have already ran out.

My understanding is that Vegas isn't really using much from there anyhow, it most augments other sources. Same for much of Arizona, it's mostly only agriculture using it now.

Spoiler they can't. Having funds in your bank account =/= being able to afford them. But as we create more and more "affordable luxury" the more and more people think they "deserve" to have such luxury and will pay for it, regardless of if it is something they can afford.

My favorite example of "affordable luxury" is a "home theater in a box". It is technically a 5.1 surround sound system, but it is not a home theater. Not trying to be a gate keeper or whatever, but when you dilute a product so far to make it affordable, you miss out on the actual luxury.

I also think people overestimate how opportunity costs work. You see it all the time with wealthier folks, especially on social media talking about how great food delivery services are because they don't lose an hour of work and that hour of work makes them more money than the cost of the food + delivery costs so it's economical for those people to use those services. That is in stark contrast to us normal folk who aren't choosing between working/making money and stopping to fuel your body. I have no clue on percentages, but I have yet to meet anyone IRL who saves money by working while the food is being delivered.

That yacht sinking. If a big one like that can go down, we should really just stay out of the water.

Also that guy who went outside hiking, got mauled by a bear.

Tp4 keeps warning humanity not to go outside ever for any reason other than costco, but do they listen?
