Accidentally drove with the e-brake on for a mile. I know it probably didn't do anything permanent but I hate the fact I did.

Nope but I felt it but chalked it up to the car being lame.
Isn't it not suppose to move if the e-brake is on. I know that's how some cars I've been in worked.

What is e-brake? is it like e-mail of the postage world but for cars. Some sort of online brake? Why would you need a brake on the internet for your car?

An e-brake is just meant to stop your car from rolling due to gravity. If you can generate enough power behind the wheels then your can overcome the friction.

Is this internet brake you talk of actually a handbrake?

As in emergency brake?

Yes that was the old term for it, until people starting pulling it when there was an emergency like sliding on ice or about to crash. So now it is commonly referred to as a parking break.

But you dont use a handbrake in an emergency, only for emergency drifting around the neighbourhood. So why would it be called an emergency brake?

it prevents the car from rolling down a hill, but obviously the engine still has power enough to turn the shaft.

I've not heard of any car where the parking-brake would stop it completely..

Now that I think about it I'm not sure the thing even works. The emergency brake light only turns on when it feels like it

Some recent cars refuse to move with the parking brake on. Others are happy to drive along slowly. But yeah, don’t do that.

is that a new software limiter?   there's no way they'd produce a brake powerful enough to stop the crank, because would shatter the drive shaft/couplings if someone pulled the brake while moving..

It would just have to be electrical, my father's car has an electric brake and when turned on the car isn't allowed to move.

There's the whole red light as well =/

New hand brakes are really cool, as much as I prefer a physical thing to pull up, the fact that when you are on a hill the car physically won't move until you find the biting point and pull away in a manual is really kick-ass.

I would like to have it, but i'm pretty used to the old style. My handbrake isn't the best, but once you get hill starts down, it's easy. Because the pedals on my old car are so unresponsive compared to newer cars, it's quite easy to just hold the biting points at red lights and small slopes without the hand brake applied hah.

I got to experience this in Italy this summer. I loved it, but the other drivers all smashed into walls and stuff cause they couldnt grasp the concept of the cars not rolling backwards.

I guess I'm pretty lucky then, my car is a manual but it will also hold the brake in for two seconds when on a hill to give me enough time to release the clutch. I driven older cars without it but I can't go back.

idk why people are so shocked you could drive a mile or so with the handbreak on, I've not gone a mile before but I've driven around carparks and out of lanes with it still on.
Though it is fun to learn of the problems people have going from an automatic to manual car.

We call it a handbrake down here.

Which is ironic, 'cause some older Aussie-designed cars have foot-operated handbrakes.

As in emergency brake?

Yes that was the old term for it, until people starting pulling it when there was an emergency like sliding on ice or about to crash. So now it is commonly referred to as a parking break.

I've heard parking brake, but emergency brake more.
I guess I'm old.

We call it a handbrake down here.

Which is ironic, 'cause some older Aussie-designed cars have foot-operated handbrakes.

Newer Merican cars have them foot brakes also.

That is a BMW, from which we can understand that Steezus' Father has no understanding of how an indicator works  :))
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

I think most documentation calls it a parking brake now. Having driven a manual for 15 years, I always use mine to make quick 180s when I park. When I was first learning to drive, I used it for hill-starts too, but haven't done that in ages. I know its 'required' in certain countries for hill-starts.

I've never used it while in motion except to make quick 180s, as powersliding > handbrake turning.  :thumb:

It makes complete ****ing sense that our ticketing system at work would LDAP lookup with an account name that HAS NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH THE TICKETING SYSTEM.

Nor is it documented ANYWHERE.

 >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

what ticketing system?

Dell's KACE K1000. Not a big fan at all.

It's similar to when GB leaders start multiple GBs, don't finish one completely, acts like a child when people raise concerns, and people continue to suck their ****s when a new gb starts. This place IS very silly.

Anyway, my sour soul album came mislabeled so that sucks. Luckily Amazon is sending me a replacement.
