Fiancee and her sister work for the same company, both have training scheduled last week (fiancee Sunday-Wednesday in Florida, her sister Sunday-Friday in NY).

I had agreed to watch soon to be sister in law's dog (he usually stayed with us most weekends, as his brother is our dog). She brings him over on Sunday, and he wasn't looking good at all. Very sluggish, moving slow, etc. She says he was just at the vet, got a shot, and should be better after the fact. Sleeps the rest of the night.

Monday I go to work, he hasn't eaten since the day before. I get home, he poo/pee on the floor since he can't hold it anymore. Still doesn't eat. I speak to SIL, she gets a vet appointment scheduled for him next day at 6PM. Sleep downstairs and constantly monitor him, getting about 2 hours of sleep.

Tuesday isn't looking any better. Still hasn't eaten, now can barely walk due to no food. SIL calls vet, moves appointment to 8AM. Bring dog in, they take a look, and transport him to the Vet ER. Proceed to ball my eyes out in the car.

Turn out he's got pneumonia, cost of care will be somewhere between $1500-$3000. SIL wants to try treatment, but they discover a severe bacterial infection, and can't guarantee that he'll recover. I get a call at 930PM from SIL saying she's going to put him down, and wants me to be there for him. Proceed to see him off to a better place, and then cry myself to sleep.

Wifey supposed to return Wednesday around 7. Flight gets delayed. Then she misses her next flight because they never announced it. Eventually gets home on Thursday around noon.

To say that was the toughest week I've had to endure is an understatement. I've got an enormous soft spot for animals, and to see the little guy suffering like, AND to have to be the one to be there for him on his last journey, that was absolutely crushing.

Sorry for feels, but I needed to get this off my chest.

Rest in Peace, Baxter.

Sincerest condolences.

It's never easy to lose a pet, no matter how much we tell ourselves their lives will be relatively short, no matter how many times we go through it, it never gets easier.

RIP Baxter.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Nice. Enjoy that flight. Last time I was on a flight with young children in the vicinity it was like being in a Napoleonic field hospital.

So I needed to get my Nobles refit, gonna mail em out ASAP. There also seems to be a small cosmetic flaw on the faceplate, I hope they'll be able to do something about it. I've spent like $1150 USD total on em so far when I believe they're originally like $699 (200 for the wizard design reprint, couldn't help myself, the rest on shipping and having impressions done twice). Coulda got UERMs instead at this rate and wouldn't have to deal with shipping back and forth from USA to China. The final kick in the **** was that they released their new line up of CIEMs like a month after I had ordered my 4C .. just a little salty.

Oh and I have jury selection in about 6 hours. I don't plan to sleep because I have work at 5 am on Friday. :)

Ah, and I also miss having friends from the other side of the world since my sleep and work schedule are normally so ****y

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Trudging through this part of my life really sucks...I just want to hit fast forward and come back when I'm past this.

I'm sure we all have periods like this.
I for one feel this month has been slow as **** because we're waiting to get our new house and get out of this godforsaken hellhole.
BUT, had to wait 2 months, one month has gone by, but this last one has just been turtle slow so far. I've wanted to hit fast forward a bunch of times, but then I remember that I best get the most out of my days because you never know when you'll look back on it and regret it.

When we were young a lot of us wished we were older.  When we get old a lot of us wish we were younger.

Many of us will probably go as we came - in a hospital, no teeth, and ****ting our pants.

Enjoy life, however old you are - it is a privilege denied to many.

- my thesis data is large enough to make someone cry and laugh on the same time.
- my thesis' deadline has been pushed forward by one month, from 3rd of july to 3rd of june.
- my first transaction on geekhack turned out to be one of the biggest (if not the biggest) cluster**** in the history of the forum.
- my money's almost depleted and it's still in the middle of the month.

tbh tho we all should have expected some issues, just never really expected the majority of the orders to be screwed up this badly, with little to no recompense available as it seems.

Yeah riiiight. With that quantity of sales, issues were expected. Though i can't believe that he's letting his wife handle ALL the shipping and doesn't double check the item before sealing them.
But gutz' sales isn't one of my biggest worries. (My thesis are. **** thesis.) So.. Yeah. I'm in the waiting game and will see what are the community gonna do to solve this problem. Looks like he's gotten too much weight on him to keep himself sane lol.
