Well, it started it's auto run and then stopped when it got to the brewing part. As I was trying to figure out what was wrong it tipped and fell off the counter, then in a half asleep coffeeless rage I proceeded to stomp it into the floor. Not one of my proudest moments at all.

May not have been a proud moment for you, but it's completely understandable.

I don't care who you are, starting a day off with a broken coffee maker and no coffee is just horrible. I would have raged too, and Vulcans have total control over their emotions. :))

It's all about the filter, not the glass thingy

Instant coffee.

1.Heat your water in the microwave for 1.5 min.
2. Stir in your coffee

Ok, it's mostly about the filter. But the ability to control the pour pattern and water temp are another advantage of the chemex

Not in your coffee mug or open dish.

I have had that happen with steam that had no way to escape and pressure built up. Stick an egg in microwave and duck for cover!

Open to suggestions on what to replace it with. Something that can make 2 cups in less than 6-7 minutes. I have an old Mr. Coffee but it really ruins the taste. What I loved about the recently deceased was the timer setting so the coffee was already waiting as soon as I rolled out of bed in the morning.

Seriously, what's wrong with instant coffee? You can even get it from Starbucks if Nescafe isn't up your alley. It's what the majority of Europeans use at home from what I hear.

French presses are nice but a hassle. Grinding beans, waiting for water to boil.
Coffee makers in general are a pain in the ass. Cleaning, filters.
Keurigs are trendy, but expensive and a pain to clean. I gave mine away.

Instant coffee is nothing more than dehydrated coffee and/or ground coffee. As much cream and sugar most people put in their coffee they can't tell the difference anyway. The only way taste would really matter is if you drank it black.

Black is the only way to drink it.  I'd argue the reason most people add so much sugar and cream is because they use such bad coffee or brew it terribly.

I can't argue with that Nub. I used to be quite the coffee snob because of that, but these days I'm just happy to get a little caffeine fix and not think too much about it.

I have this one and love it.  http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DCC-1200-Central-Programmable-Coffeemaker/dp/B00005IBX9/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1383799157&sr=8-6&keywords=coffee+maker  I don't use the timer function as I grind my beans right before I brew.  The 4 cup option makes a quick cup.  10 cups in about 5-7 min.  It also has a a charcoal filter in the water area.

I use a press at work.  The giant coffee maker at work makes the worst coffee I have ever tasted.  Doesn't matter if I put my own grind in it.  Always tastes burnt and bitter.

I drink coffee frequently and I almost always drink it black, I get just about any kind of peets coffee. I am thinking about getting a french press, right now I use a singe serve bun coffee maker that can do normal coffee and pods (i dont use the pods) it is pretty good but I think I want to try a french press for when I can wait more than the minute or two it takes to make coffee with my maker.

yuckity yuck.
never heard that.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Always tastes burnt and bitter.

http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DGB-650BC-Thermal-Automatic-Coffeemaker/dp/B001G8Y2WW/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1383805385&sr=1-4 is the one that died on me today, after only 6 months.

That sucks.  Mine has been going strong with daily use for over 2 years.  The same one that my wife took over 5 years ago that we had is also still going.  It comes in pink if that helps.
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

I got a Chemex about two years ago and I love it. That would be my recommendation too.
