You've almost hit your PayPal sending limit

I got an email from Paypal after my last "It's in the mail..." contribution.

I was not happy with the options:
1- Link a bank account to your Paypal account
2- Apply for a Paypal credit card

So I called them

Me:
Hello, just got an email  saying I've hit my sending limit and you are telling me I have to link a bank account or apply for a Payal CC to lift it.
I'm not happy with these options. Do you have other options?

1st guy:  Sure you have to link to a bank account or apply for a Paypal CC to lift it.

Me: Did you ear what I just said?

(Back and forth waste of time)

1st guy: let me transfer you to a service representative

(cut and paste back and forth waste of time)

2nd guy: let me transfer you to an account manager

3rd guy:

(cut and paste back and forth making progress)

3nd guy: we value our customers, I just lift the limit. Happy keyboard shopping.

Me: Euh... Really?

3rd guy: yup, anything else for you today?

Me: nope, thank you very very much.

I Googled the issue before calling them. I found horror stories all over the place. I didn't expect an happy ending like that. I just had to be very patient and polite.

That's how I feel every time I use customer support.

As long as you're not a duck they're usually OK.

Don't blame the individual customer service reps. They are supposed to abide by certain guidelines made by the company.

I thought linking your Bank account was one of the first things you did when setting up PayPal.

Right - Some are better than others. Overall I rate my experience with Paypal above average.

In this case, I thought it was a going to be lost cause like Keymaster said - "abide by certain guidelines made by the company"
Surprisingly enough, it got resolved to my liking.

Nope - I just entered a valid Credit Card number and refresh it at expiration with the new one.

If anything goes wrong, I have the Credit Card protection on top of the Paypal protection.
It is also very easy to nuke a card and get another one issued if it has been compromised. A compromised bank account is a bit more trouble to recover.

Yea I thought you kind of had to. I tried to take it off a few years ago after getting scammed on a car part and found it was nearly unusable after that.

fees are higher for CCs tho. i just sent a gift payment (to somebody over seas) and with balance and/or bank account it was 1.95.

with CC it was 15.

$15... That's nasty.  Was it a Paypal charge or a CC fee from your bank?

Nah, paypal always charges more for the other options.
I've had my bank account linked for this very reason. [It's probably a scam somehow, though I've never had any problems.]
I buy all my video games online.

Paypal fees are wierd. I dont understand them. I will often times chipin on bills (pizza/beer/etc) with friends  using paypal and there are no fees. Other times its like 4%+ a flat fee and still others its 15%. I have no idea. Im sure its something simple that ive just failed to read.

Its definitely cool they removed the limit for you though. I linked my bank account so I could spend internet money IRL, but it seems like there was some ridiculously low amount that I could send to my bank account every month. $200 bucks maybe. Im gonna have to try your method of "asking for it to be removed".

Yeah that's normal, PayPal sticks it to you if you want to use your credit card, they want you to keep a balance or use your bank account.

Mine did this to me as well (long time CC only user), but I also didn't want to link a bank account.   To satisfy having to use PayPal still I took up getting those "Green" card money deposit things from a pharmacy in the US to put money into my account.  Yes it is less cost efficient, but after reading many a horror story about PayPal I don't want them having access to my bank account for any reason at any time.

I keep a separate bank account and CC just for PP.  I dont trust them with my main accounts!  My bank acct is just the lowest funded option there is with no fees (in my case $100).  My CC is only used for PP so I can easily track if anything goes wrong.  I've never had an issue with PP and have been using them longer than I can remember but why take chances.
