« on: Tue, 10 December 2013, 17:43:32 »
Saw this in a movie..

The guy's got a light bleed..  this guy rips up some cigarettes onto some tissue and makes a compress..

This should be BAD.. correct?

It's not sanitary.

Super glue works better anyway. That's what I use when I cut myself by accident. Hospitals too

Wait so he puts the tobacco in the compress? Nicotine is toxic, I don't think that would be a good idea.

Using a tobacco compress to stop light bleeding is an old folk remedy. Strictly temporary and only if nothing better is available, of course.
As George Orwell put it:
Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed; everything else is public relations.

Interesting.

Don't throw out the antibiotic ointment just yet.

u mean that one post on ask wiki? LOLOL

I saw this pdf.. it says the tobacco thing is a myth..

http://www.kcfirstaid.com/images/first_aid_myths_mistakes.pdf

But honestly... I think anything that works like a gauze.. that soaks up liquid and holds blood there for it to clot will work to stop light bleeding..

So maybe it's not as much a myth.. as it's just that light bleeding can be stopped by anything...

Computer paper would probably work too.

I take it packing in a bunch of dirt and covering with something would work also in a bind?
