Benefits of a Korean keyboard are

A) It's attractive

B) It's very personalized

C) It's something a little different (to people who don't know too much about keyboards)

There may be more, but these are (IMO) the most important 3.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

From what I can see:
  • LED lighting, though mostly around the keyboard and the edges of key caps.
  • Fancy aluminium/metal cases (in various colours of course), or instead just fancy coloured cases. Some of them comes out in acrylic.
  • Usually can come with programmable firmware for keyboard. Though I have heard that the programming tool is mostly in Korean.
  • Mostly hand made not really factory built. Therefore rare and unique.
Though I personally do not have a Korean custom so do not quote me on it. This is from what I can see.

Custom boards are never cheap, and while the poker is a great board I don't think it is really the best way to go as far as a custom keyboard goes.

I was going to put it in my FMJ case but I decided to just go all out while I was at it and ordered a pcb and plate from sprit, clears, springs, lube, stickers, clear tops (if they evar show up, thanks rarararar)
Getting a custom pcb and just simple switches like stock blues could be cheaper than a poker if you aren't using the stock poker keycaps in the first place.

My point is, that isn't even on the expensive side of things, anyone saying HHKB is more expensive in this situation is just stroking their ego (not calling names because this doesn't apply to all members, but a lot of members love to brag about how much their HHKB was)

People, he said he was getting an aluminum case and plate for the poker, how the hell is that cheaper than a HHKB?

I can't make your decision for you either way though, I honestly am going to say that I think the HHKB presents a decent value, the board is solid, you aren't going to be doing any case swaps and the stock keycaps are nice, I am going to pick one up next year.

Just think, poker 2 plus nice replacement keycaps(80-100) is going to cost up to or around 220, which isn't much cheaper than an HHKB. (and that is before an aluminum case, plate and any other switch tuning)

Hmm, I wasn't really looking at blacks. Mostly reds.

And i would have to add the price of keycaps and in that end it would end up being 400$ anyways. Plus i like the 60% size for some reason

Other than that i can't really see anything that i would take over the poker 2 with the extras, It would seem the poker 2 with the extra mods i would do would be pretty much the same but a little bit less money.

Or i could be very wrong.

I am not 100% sure if it is still open and if ordering now would result it later shipping but this is what I got.

Stickers go between the top and the bottom of the switches, some people say they stabilize the switches better, some say they keep dust out of lubed switches. I can't really say anything about any of that since I didn't and wont bother doing tests but at around 6 dollars(the GB sold them for 1 dollar, but shipping was a couple dollars as well) it might as well be done if you are opening up switches. I would mainly say they are for aesthetics as long as you are using clear switch tops, or else you just see a bit of color sticking out of the side of the switch.

I honestly don't think much of all the aluminum...   it's a tool...  we're not women... lets stop playing dressup...

if you must play dressup... spend the cash in items people will actually see.

The aluminum case was 160 and 180 after shipping
stickers were 8 (techkeys was the only website with lime green in stock)
pcb was 50 (20 dollar shipping on this as well)
plate was 45 I think
springs were 10
switches were 50
lube was 13
leds 10

no keycaps yet, I think i am going to get toxic set so that will probably be 100, no custom cable, so that would be around 20-30 if I had someone do it for me.

I don't think I am missing anything

Nope, not even the premium case and it adds up to that, I baby my keyboards so I didn't bother getting 7075. Also 35 for clear switch tops, but once again, I might not even get them because of rarar disappearing.

It's a custom board, I thought the need to solder was implied.

the GH60 is very easy to assemble.. if you got charged more than $10 for the soldering, ur being robbed, and that guy is not ur buddy...

Lube  job is technically worth $30, But you can't trust anyone to do that for you.. because they probably cut corners.. it's just tedious as crap.

I was implying that if the op does not know how to solder then he should probably hire someone to do it for him.

The assembly charge for the groupbuy was $25.
You should start a assembly service and have me put it in my sticky thread if your that cheap.

Don't you guys think that for someone who has never even had a mechanical keyboard it would make more sense to recommend him something else apart from black poker II completely rebuilt right off the bat, grounds up?

Just sayin'....this customization thingy, this must be a cultural difference between US and EU...you guys also love to customize cars and basically anything as long as it makes it unique, this is not very common over here. Just an interesting observation, not implying anything.

It would save them the time and money of buying any other keyboards
