Some of them are noticeably more crooked than the rest.

Should be in the reviews section?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It probably looks worse in the picture, than it does in RL. Of course, this is just a guess, and I can't really speak for the photograph, given this is someone else's photo. =P

But do note the bottom line of the keyboard isn't completely straight, so I'm thinking there is some (lens) distortion in the photo, that makes it look worse than it really is. Unless the bottom line of the keyboard really IS indeed crooked like that. D=

lol ok I'm at work typing on my Type Heaven now.  I don't notice any crooked letters on mine, however if I do tap the bottom edge it does make a sound.

But I've owned this keyboard since August 2013 and still didn't notice this until now, so I don't think it's too bad.  Also all other edges are nicely reinforced I think they just slack off when making connection tabs at the bottom.

The slack is true of all RF87 boards, too, I believe. The top and bottom of my RF87u slides a bit back and forth. That doesn't mean EVERYTHING about the build quality is ****e, though.

lol ok I'm at work typing on my Type Heaven now.

:P

The slack is true of all RF87 boards, too, I believe. The top and bottom of my RF87u slides a bit back and forth. That doesn't mean EVERYTHING about the build quality is ****e, though.

I mean, if my MX board shifted that would automatically qualify it as very ****ty.

lol to be fair, aside from the tapping sound (which under normal operation will never happen) I find Type Heaven very solid built.  Like if you tap anywhere else it's rock solid.

Just don't tap under the arrow cluster lol.

HYDE, LOOK AT MY WORK KEYBOARD, DO YOU SEE WHY I WAS RANDOMLY TAPPING THAT EXACT POINT, THAT IS WHERE MY SPACEBAR THUMB HITS THE CASE ON A REGULAR BASIS.

That's a bit of an odd habit you have there, kmiller :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Do you touch it? Or does it do it all by itself?

I doubt it. If so, you'd have to ignore all the other positive aspects of the keyboard build, which would make no sense. You're just saying that to talk trash.

You're just saying that to lash out over the internet without any proof.
I'm being truthful. If my MX board had a looseness inside which caused shifting, it would be terrible build quality and would probably break. It doesn't matter how great a board is if it breaks out of the box, which is probably why we put mechanicals above rubber domes, or properly built ones, anyways. Unless you suggest the opposite?

How do you figure a board is going to break because it makes a cheap noise when you tap your finger on it? I swear the term "build quality" is misused a lot.

Read before you write. He was talking about shifting inside of the case, not a cheap sound. That, like the rest of your argument, was purely imagination.

^ Nope, I was just talking about the plastic case shell shifting. Not the actual insides (ie. the PCB and/or metal plate).

The plastic shell shifting is because things aren't lined up right.  The way they've designed the case is so it is easy to open...but as a result of the design, it allows for a lot of twisting which means it won't sit right, the case will be loose in some areas...

BUT, you can fix it all...Put your RF on a flat surface and press on all four corners at the same time really hard..this will set it all in the right position..you may need to twist it around a bit but eventually it'll all sit right.

I'm not sure why they designed it that way but it does cause some confusion and upset people...really though, it is easy to "fix".
