Ugh....why do people paint canvas... I mean what's the point right?!

The point is some people can do it well. And yes, some people do it poorly.

DipCaps, Bunny Caps, Niqmods etc. are all really well done IMO.

Is this in reference to the legends printed or double-shotted onto keycaps?

Perhaps it is so people can see what each key does.  Or is that too obvious?

Not everyone is familiar with every key in every position of every layout of every keyboard.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

What about those that are learning international languages and finding out the keyboard is legendless? Such as for instance learning Russian only to find that with blank keycaps, entering Cyrillic language is insanely hard? On screen keyboard, and what if they don't have that installed?

What about those that are learning different layouts? for example transitioning from ISO to ANSI or vice versa?

Also what about those that are logophilia? With my keyboards I can see various phonetics alongside the English alphabet and to be frank I also quite like some of the phonetics from other languages. What is wrong with having characters like "の" for instance printed on the keys or even "ㄞ"?

If you've remembered the symbol row and never make mistakes or have to back track, then I applaud you.

For me, I remember the symbol row, but I usually can't touch type with perfect accuracy so on occasion I have to look at the symbols.

That too. I used to remember the symbol row(s) almost perfectly but since I changed to HHKB and enforced JIS layout I had to learn the new layout. That combined with switching to and from a full sized (and not a JIS layout) keyboard to 60% (which has now been set to strictly enforce JIS layout) is going to haunt me for many more moons to come. Not to mention I have yet another keyboard in the mail with yet another different layout (this time ISO/DE) but because I chose to have it like this, it would mean that I need to be more accommodating just as the keyboards that I am going to keep forcibly rotating around needs to be legended in the very least.

If there is anyone that can seriously remember various layouts (apart from ANSI <-> ISO) and/or from Qwerty to Dvorak like the back of their hand (and also to not make a single mistake when switching between either as well as not losing too lose speeds) then you have me envious. I am struggling here switching from big-ass enter to JIS and soon ISO/DE. Sure I can use a specific "keymap" on all keyboards that I rotate with regardless of however they are printed on the keys (or not...) but that isn't learning, that is just honouring one layout and enforcing it on other keyboards disregarding their layout.

Such drama when you wouldn't be looking at the keyboard when touch typing... "Oh noes! such ugly legends!! I must nao be a n00b."  :blank:

Sucks to be you when you find out blank keycaps will also play their part in being your achilles heel when you realise there's dozens more varied keyboard layouts out there. It is just as naïve as saying ANSI is master race.

Anything that's above 60% looks plain with blanks unless you have a nice color scheme or an image of some sort.

Printed caps add to the aesthetics of the board in some cases.

I tyepw liwh thjios when I donmäst haebve tjwe letters printed on tghe keycaps.

Actually that's just how I type when I don't look at the board. I float my hands all over and look at the board now and then to reorient my fingers. I could probably make do with about 4 or so actually printed, though, and the rest blanks.

On my ergo board, however, blanks are king. Never need to look at them when typing.

TP, you're a funny man.

Technically my Ducky Shine Yellow Edition is not printed.

It is engraved.

Which is not that far from blank, tbh.

As a dude who likes typography, I actually love the text on the keys. I went through a blank key cap phase and quickly got over it. Even though I touch type, I love the way the letters, numbers and symbols look on the keys. The only board without caps I want is a blank white HHKB because, let's face it, that thing is beautiful O.O

Agreed, even though I can fully touch type, I recently swapped my blank PBT back to WYSE because the legends are beautiful.

Legends=decorations for those of us that can touch type. I just like how legends look more than I like blanks in most cases. As long as the OS is set to a keymapping I know I don't care what is on the legends.
I know I am super happy there is legends on keyboards when I am traveling abroad and often need to use public internet terminals. I refuse to drag extra items around with me like a laptop when I travel.
Especially in Europe where you would be using totally different keymapping from one day to the next moving through countries. There is no chance I will remember a dozen different keymapping that I never used and no chance of changing it to US when it's locked down in kiosk mode.

Because not everyone can touch type, and even those who can sometimes benefit from having legends.

I can touch type quite well, but when I am eating behind my desk and typing something with my left hand, I need legends, since I can not find me way around the keyboard with my just my left hand.

I can touch type and I had my phase of loving blanks. Now though, as Ivan pointed out, legends are basically a decoration for me, and I like the look of Cherry legends, hence I no longer (regularly) use blanks on my 'board (I still put blanks on every now and then :p).

I don't see what's the issue. Damorgue's 3D printed metal (I think it's titanium) keycaps are awesome. Certainly not for noobs.
