Because my intestines are short now, I have been recommended to drink salt water to help osmosis so as to avoid dehydration. I've got a recipe for water with salt and sugar... but that just tastes wile.
Orange lemonade is the only drink I've found that actually works with a little salt in it, although it is still better without.
For a number of years, I have also made Scottish orange marmalade when oranges have been in season.
The traditional Scottish recipe also contains salt: or rather, it recommends soaking Seville oranges in salt water for a few days before, and I think the salt infuses the orange. (That's where I got the idea from to drink salted orange lemonade)
Apparently back in the day, Seville oranges used to be shipped from Spain to Scotland in barrels filled with salt water.
This year, I made as much as three batches of marmalade, resulting in eleven jars (of varying size).
There are many varieties of oranges, that do taste different. Last year I used half Seville oranges, and half organic Sicilian blood oranges, and the result was quite tangy (but not as tangy as 100% Seville oranges)
This year I used half Seville oranges and half eating-oranges (sweet with thick peel). It does not taste less: just a different orange.
Next year, I think I'll use three (or more) types of oranges. The base will still be Seville oranges but I do like a little bit of the notes from the sweet eating-oranges.
