Citizens United violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president.
So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.”

Display port is clearly the way to go because of the free license vs hdmi

Vs DVI which uses more copper to achieve the same bandwidth, and requires clock..

Whatever works and I have a cable for.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Just because you don't use more than 2 doesn't mean others don't. Plenty of times I wish I had 4 or more monitors.

Yeah, for real i wish I had space for three monitors. A portrait one would be great for reddit/facebook/geekhack, and I have my TV set up for streams and TV shows and things.

Ideally I would want 3 set up ifinity wise, at least one I can spin round portrait, and a TV above for chilling while watching things.

But in terms of picture quality, aren't HDMI and DVI-D the same? And the only difference is that HDMI carries HD audio?

The only reason I would lean towards HDMI over DVI is image ghosting, but that's not always a problem so it generally doesn't matter. But really they are the same looking to me. I'm not sure if DVI can handle 3D as well though.

Yeah I don't think it can.

But 3D isn't that important to me, I can't see me using it for anything, So I'm pretty happy with 2 DVI-D and a DP right now.

I thought I had posted this, but apparently not:

SDI. It is the connector used for digital video on broadcasting equipment. Professional video file formats often contain chunks of raw SDI data.
Graphics cards used by broadcasters come with SDI, often both in and out for rendering overlays.  Some late SGI workstations also did as standard.

Only problem is that SDI isn't all that common. I can't think of any reasonably priced GPUs with an SDI connector.

there's a specific reason why they use SDI..

Longer thicker cables...   and it will always be a staple in the "work place" sure..

But there's no reason to use SDI @ home..

It also doesn't have the necessary bandwidth for 4k 120hz/144hz, which is what's soon coming..

Thunderbolt is some good tech. If it were pushed by everyone else besides Apple it would currently be a lot cheaper and ubiquitous right now. It definitely has a lot of pluses over USB3 technically. Even though it's no longer an Apple exclusive it's period as such hurt it in a big way as it gave usb3 a massive lead everywhere else. As far as it's video capabilities it is DP. DP is the best choice really, followed by DVI-D, then HDMI (only because it's much more difficult to match up the different hdmi revisions to ensure greater than 1080p). VGA should be dead by now. I have no clue why it still appears on anything.

Why is everyone putting HDMI first? I find that DVI or VGA works better, particularly when hooking PCs up to televisions. Every time I hook a PC to a TV via HDMI it never displays at the TVs FULL native resolution (which for the 720p TVs I've had to use lately, is 1366 x 768).

Of course, the benefit of HDMI is that is has sound. But I'd rather have native resolution and use an AUX cable than semi-native resolution with sound.

Or depending on the TV there may be some setting in it like 'game mode' that disables it's internal over/underscan and then you don't have to **** around with any of that in the gpu setting.

HDMI is good for the home setup but when you need to split audio fast and easy, dvi/component is the way to go.

Why are HDMI matrixes so expensive??? :3

Yep: BNC > VGA. There's a reason that it comes standard on the back of good CRTs.

I, of course, prefer displayport.

Thunderbolt is some good tech. If it were pushed by everyone else besides Apple it would currently be a lot cheaper and ubiquitous right now.
but it will always be expensive. No matter how ubiquitous it gets.
VGA should be dead by now. I have no clue why it still appears on anything.
VGA is very useful as a sort of legacy connection you can use. With HDMI and DP being common, and DVI still appearing somewhat, you may or may not have the proper connection, so it's worth it for a lot of people to just use the legacy VGA port that they know will work. It might not be full resolution, but sometimes it just has to work.

Of course dual-mode displayport solves this. I really enjoy it and would like to see it on more devices. After a significant amount of looking, it turns out you can't actually get it on a computer that's under like $700.

DO NOT USE IT.

Use Windows instead. It is a much better choice.

microsoft windows - I use Windows 8.1 on three devices almost exclusively, but when I need an OS that's a lot less business oriented (and frankly useless) I gotta swap back over to Mac OS X. Linux is almost too useful, but I'm too dumb to use it. Windows is a happy medium.

Good idea. I might install it on one of my Pentium or 486 machines. It's a good operating system, isn't it?
