Some dude (kind of douchebag of the internet probably) find a way to retrieve them (illegaly but still) and publish them on the internet for all to see and become a "hero" or just make some money or whatever the reason. Then the media make sure everyone is SHOCKED, but the part that is not clear is what to be shocked about: The fact that the celebrities took some porn pictures of themselves or that the internet is not safe or that there are douchebags on the internet or that some people will be happy to go look at these pictures.

That essentially disagrees with my position (as seeming others here do too). So in the interests of fairness I'll reply to this here as paicrai seemed to be a bit incensed by my position and thoughts on the matter.

The whole notion and stance that 'sexting' is normal and is fine I don't really agree with. I agree that while we are sexual animals (hurr) just becasue we can do something doesn't mean we should. In the last few years sexing (according to experts) has increased alot, but also, so has revenge porn. It doesn't matter if the only person who gets your sexy picture is the SO, once they (or someone else) has a copy of that picture it can be impossible for you to have control over said picture (as victims of revenge porn know).

Also, as someone in a long term, long distance relationship I don't think that sexting is good, fun or meaningful. Sure you can disagree and some people might find it exciting, but the risks of other people, or people you don't want, to see said pictures is crazy high and the immediate benefits are so tiny compared to the lasting damage it can do if they get posted publicly. So I'm super against it as something to do 'for fun' unless your the kind of person, or are in the kind of relationship who would be happy or not mind the possible exposure (and at which point your probably posting on r/gonewild).

But that said I'm not victim blaming, it ****ing sucks that this has happened to these women (and seemingly in some cases) and children. And those hackers are literally the scum of the earth and should and probably will get found and put into prison (like the guy who hacked into Scarlet's iphone pictures and got 10 years in jail). But this horrible incident and the rise of revenge porn should highlight the reasons why sexting isn't good and should probably be avoided.


And while it's nice that the Forbes post says that you should practice 'safe sexting' it then alludes to explain how to do so lol

Digital pictures aren't immune to this...  When I worked at a retail store that did digital photo printing we had to preview the batches to make sure that there wasn't anything innappropriate as we could get sued for printing illegal photos.

Me, I looked at them because I was curious. Enjoyed the sight of some beautiful naked women. Not recognising half of them.
But still saying that it is not fair to call them "dumb *****es" for making nude pictures of themselves. Even if they are famous and had them uploaded on a cloud service.
It is simply a sign of the growing pains of this development. And I will call you short-sighted if you think 'the cloud' will go away. There are simply too many advantages to it.
It would be like expecting e-mail, social media and your cellphone to disappear and not at least slightly change the way you live your life.

Sure they are under increased scrutiny. But they have managed to keep that quite well separated so far. Until now. Because some *******(s) broke into their ****.
They were wise enough to do it under safe conditions, away from the public eye, not bothering anyone.
If you want to punish them for their private habits, their private thoughts, go ahead. I just think that is not fair. Even if they are celebrities.
