Walking
« on: Fri, 12 September 2014, 02:58:56 »
Just watched a video about -walking-...

So... I've been walking wrong for much of my life... Most of my walking was done with a heavy backpack, and that must've overriden my normal technique

I walk with very little arm movement and hip rotation... and I tend to pull against the ground rather than push off of it.

LOL... didn't think I'd need to practice this one..

So all those Asian moms I've seen power walking around neighborhoods since I was a child were doing it right.

Why do Asian moms do that? I am Asian and I don't think my mom (or me) does that! LOL!

Dunno.  I'm Chinese.  Never seen my mother or grandmother walk that way.  Seen plenty of other older Asian women going all out with the sun visor and crazy hip rotation, though.

yea.. apparently the hip-rotation is very important....

but the Asian-mom thing is probably an exaggerated motion to apply more force in a low impact way.. cuz in their exercise it looks like they're applying a ton of counterforce because they overexert to the point of leaping, but without the follow through, so they have to pull back on that momentum.

but yea...  gonna practice some buns-rotation after my run today..

I still walk with a heavy backpack.  About an hour a day.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Not so much about walking but keeping upright on your feet most of the day.  At my work I only sit down when visiting this place or writing reports to send off.  Spend most of the day on my feet except when reaching into places under trucks, large equipment and tight spaces  8) .

Never carry back packs or heavy suitcases for more than 10 minutes at a time because that damages your ligaments and gait, according to my doctor.

I just walk as fast as possible everywhere. Power walking to the max.

If I don't feel the burn in my anterior tibia muscle, I'm not walking fast enough! If I'm more than 2mm from tripping I'm not going fast enough!

I got places to go and stuff to do, can't waste time walking slow.

---
If I have to walk more than 5 miles I slow down a little, especially if I'm having to carry a bike.

I used to like walking. But my time in the Army aggravated my flat feet, even though I wore insoles 24/7. Those 8 mile walk/runs carrying 20kg really do you in.

Now I can't wear anything skinny/smaller shoes otherwise my feet/ankles/knees hurt after more than an hour.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Walking hurts my feet and calves :(

Biking is far superior :)
