There's like.. Nothing good this year.. :(
« on: Thu, 27 November 2014, 13:02:19 »
So.. there were the $60 for 8gb ram deals..  which are still more/less a rip off..  due to price fixing..
The only good deal for Harddrive so far was the 4TB for $90, and that wasn't even on black friday..

Tiger Direct,

Western Digital Red  $75  after -$20 rebate and -$25 paypal checkout discount

Anyone spot anything Else interesting ?

Meh.. I'm still waiting for SSD deals here in Norway. But the thing is, black friday ain't really a big thing in Norway, and it's still only the 27th here. So I gotta wait till tomorrow before I really know if anything's worth buying.
You lucky bastards in America who've got awesome deals :c it's only like 25-40% off here...

well, i thought the 850 pro 256gb + free Assassins creed unity (new game) for $150 was a pretty good deal..

you can sell the game card for at least $25-30..  so $120-125 for an 850pro is pretty good.

That doesn't sound too bad at all. But again, I'm in Norway ._.

What was it actually that unity screwed up so badly? I've seen tons of headliners saying that they done goofed, but haven't really read any of the articles. Is it buggy, or poorly optimised, or what?

so.. basically the game makes a bunch of Online calls..  somewhere in doing that,  it causes the game to hitch really badly, so frame rates drop by 20fps across the board..

O_o .. that sounds.. annoying?
How did something like that get through to release? Haven't they got people testing for that kind of stuff?

it's like they don't care.. LOL

there's really only a FEW studios big enough to make AAA games these days.. so it's not like anyone's actually got competition.

They probably went "Hmmm... there might be a small amount of noticeable FPS drops. ... naaaah... it's probably us being picky. Noone will notice!".
Such great tactics.

Some of the flash deals on Amazon are pretty good.

But then it's like 3 and a half hours until the actual black friday
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

You are EST. I am GMT.

The UK does Black Friday now too... I think I'm going to wait for Cyber Monday too.

I saw a decent monitor for 180 or so, but other than that it was a disappointing black friday. I had already decided to wait till next year. Same goes for Christmas i think.

That's the dream LOL... but that's essentially giving you the mobo for free..  so.... Possible, but it's gonna be like a b or h series.. and the overclock will be limited.. cuz you won't get the memory steppings..

Not much good stuff this year unless you are looking for a tv.  I swung by Frys this evening and snagged an hdmi cable for free, a stuffed animal for my daughter for $2, and a 32 gb samsung evo micro sd card for $12 for the tablet I bought my wife for christmas.  Everyone in the store seemed to have a 4k tv in their cart.  They had 65" lg 4ks for around $1100 and the same tv in 55" for $900 i think.
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

Yarb..  Tp4 refuse to buy anything that doesn't have ulmb....You really have to see to believe, it's a very intense experience.. I'd say ALMOST better than CRTs.

So regular TVs are out for me.   waiting for ulmb to hit the big screens.

Dude, I'm not gonna unleash your wrath :))
But seriously, it's a GTX 970 and an intel i5-4690K which both were at a really good deal. Also a HyperX 240GB SSDD plus a seagate barracuda 2TB for other stuffs.
However, she's considering a proper laptop instead. Any thoughts on that? (I'm asking everyone, not just tp)

Based on a specs you listed it's a gaming rig ? If so gaming should remain on desktop and not in overpriced laptop that will overheat .
Laptop are fine for all the other usages .

Gaming/drawing other graphical stuff.. aka cpu and ram! But yeah, I get what you mean.. but when you might end up at a uni with game designs, 3D, etc. having a high end laptop might not be such a bad idea. I do, however, agree that gaming is mainly for a desktop

EDIT: I'll give insight as to why such a high end graphic card etc later.. but right now I'm making dinner :))

I grabbed an evga 750 ti from newegg for $109 after MIR -- normally $179.99. Certainly not a bleeding edge GPU but should be quite and upgrade coming from an HD5450 :D :D

I'll upgrade my core 2 processor and mobo later :x

There's no such thing as a high-end laptop..

Only overpriced bricks that tends to overheat and / or throttle...

If you're gonna go SERIOUS 3dmax , get something like the titan,  because it's more tailored for workstation stuff..

as far as CPU,  4690k is fast enough as long as it's overclocked.. the PROBLEM is to properly OC a 4690k, you need to De-lid..

and that may require  remounting here and there if the tim experiences pump out, under the ihs..

So..  if your GF is the pots+pans+apron type,   prolly get the 4790k for safe measure and accept a lower safer oc like 4.4 or 4.2... for which you don't need to delid.

When I say that I mean it's more likely I'll get something newer and better if I wait a year instead of getting the same thing I wanted this year for $15 less next year. However I guess that's not true with my haf x tower I looked at for about 3 years so maybe you're right :p

Kinda sad, really.. I really looked forward to Black Friday, but nearly nothing I wanted was on sale :/
