Ergo Clears vs Vintage Blacks

I currently have a set of lubed stickered vintage blacks. after reading through a lot of posts on here i'm thinking i might like ergo clears. Before I get my hand dirty installing these vintage blacks I was wondering is there anywhere I can try Ergo clears? maybe somewhere I can buy just a few of the components to make one?

I went from Ergo clears to vintage blacks..

I did it out of boredom..   how they compare.. well..... obviously blacks are smoother.. but... as far as performance...   My skill transcends the miniscule differences in response timing from the keys.

I like vintage blacks over clears. Only thing that bugs me about my KUL.

Neither of you answered OPs question... :rolleyes:

Bromono, you should be able to buy a small pack of MX clear switches, and swap the springs out with something lighter, say from Originative, to get an idea of what Ergoclears are like.

Sherry's sketchy, don't order from originative. Get some springs from the classifieds, and I'm pretty sure sprit is taking orders for round 3 of his spring GB.

hmmm the only experience I have with my vintage blacks is putting a cap on it and using my thumb and index finder to compress it. I think I will just install them.

You can always mount them on the plate without soldering and try typing to see how it would feel

I HAVE  VINTAGE BLACK AND ERGO CLEAR BOARDS. They're the only boards I have, I like the ergos but I somehow still go back to my vintage blacks... I think the smoothness of the ergos just don't cut it. I lubed them already though...

If you must change springs on vintage black try put in clear springs. If your vintage blacks are already buttery smooth feeling like they should be, don't ruin it with lubes.

I have been lucky enough to try both. My favorite switch has always been linears, but I found Clears(65g) to be enjoyable as well. They are just so different it is hard to tell which you will like without trying them both. With that being said, all roads lead to the linear master switch :P My Kmac w/ 75g Vintage Blacks feels completely different from my Filco with MX Blacks.

ErgoClears won't really compare well to vintage Blacks until they're worn in. Even then, they're different beasts. I like tactile switches, so for me, ErgoClears get the nod, but I wish they wore in quicker. Even the 'E' key on my board still has a slight scratchiness to it after 6 months of heavy use.

You can buy some Clear switches from here: http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=58

They have them in bundles from 5 to 110 in a pack.

If you do make some ErgoClears, I recommend trying the stock Clear springs in your vintage Blacks :D Those are my top tier tactile and linear switches (62g ErgoClears and vintage Ghost Blacks).

That explains a lot. I thought the clears I had typed on felt really scratchy. I need to try some of those vintage ghost blacks :)

I love Ergo Clears but ended up switching to Vintage Blacks as well...

Both are great switches but in the end I think a nice, buttery-smooth linear switch takes the cake.

(I like Topres for this reason too; because the tactility of the Topre is at the top of the keypress, the majority of the keypress feels linear to me)
