They are pretty good. It is hard to find them "just right" in stores.
As my grandfather used to say, "Persimmons are only good right after the first hard frost."

"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

Persimmons are awesome! Strangely enough, I tasted persimmon for the first time in a beer (thanks, Upland!) but my girlfriend made me try the fruit for the first time a month ago.

One persimmon is good.  Multiple persimmons makes me sick.  I can only have so much.  They are delicious though and they make a great pie.

they're a south-east asian fruit, but there are some other varieties grown elsewhere.

they're pretty sweet, i like them a lot

the uses of them are basically a cross between apples and apricots

and they're about as good as both of those things

Ok, ya gotta make sure you try persimmons RIGHT..

When you go to pick it out..  The big kind (size of medium apples) are usually easier to work with because when ripe they are Very soft..  Like... touch your cheeks or your belly..  they should be THAT soft..   That's how you know.

The smaller persimmons may be ripe and as soft, but only SOMETIMES,

they may also be edible when they're as hard as apples.. it's much harder to tell with smaller persimmons

I wouldn't say THAT soft, but yeah, you're basically right.

Squishy, dried, ripe, or unripe?

Good whichever way  :thumb:

But the best way to eat one is by leaving it in the box until they're mush, then taking a spoon and digging it right out.
Mmmmmm

Pr0 tip..  Never get 12 boxes at the same time..

They'll likely ripen all at the same time within a week of each other.. and You're screwed, unless your system can handle 3000 calories of fructose per day..

Instead, get 2 boxes, 1.5 weeks apart.

We have wild persimmon that grow around here.  They make for a nice little bitter-sweet treat if you are hiking when they are ripe.  But mostly, I just view them as coyote snacks.  During the late fall and early winter you will see coyote leavings full of pits.
