Tomorrow...
« on: Mon, 12 January 2015, 19:26:16 »
...is my 21st birthday.

The dilemma:

 - Be a responsible adult, control myself, and go into work the next day

                                           - OR -

 - Go crazy, have loads of fun, live life to the fullest, and take a day off to recover

The choice seems obvious to most, but I still can't decide...

how important is your job? if it's important, you can wait for the weekend. if it's not, wait for the weekend.

UNLESS, you play this all day:

Job is important, as right now I'm on the verge of getting hired full time. But, I doubt they'd judge me for taking a day off for my birthday...

Hence the major dilemma on my part...

Another part of the dilemma is that the entirety of this upcoming weekend is busy with non-birthday related plans, which leave no time for drinking...

I would make the most of it. For the most part, my birthday for the last eleven years has been pretty terrible, (especially my 21st LOL) which is why I hate celebrating it and really dislike the time around it. (Christmas et al).

You have the opportunity to spend it with friends. Do it.

You guys have given me much to consider...

I guess it all boils down to your definition of YOLO.

And for me, that definition has always been somewhere lost between responsibility and having fun/not caring...

all those advices are ridiculous. be sensible? hhha. have fun!
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Happy birthday, whatever you decide :D
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

haha definitely this. I have never even heard of people taking their day off for their birthday. that seems crazy.

I am probably a bit of a minority but celebrating your birthday on exactly the day it happens is not at all a big deal to me, and doesn't seem to be for anyone I know either.
is this an american thing? I mean, 21 and all seems to be big there, but I never saw it as *that* big of a deal?

either way, happy birthday in advance :p eat some good food and enjoy your day!

Party. 21 only happens once. I had a very interesting encounter with campus security on my college campus where I was urinating in a bush and they saw me. I'll never forget the stories people told me.

Save being responsible for when you are an adult. 21 is still a kid, so have fun while you still can. There is no fun like that to be had after 30 so live it up now.

What are you going to say to your kids, or how will you recollect your 21st birthday? You don't want to look back and realize that's a boring story about how you compromised your ever-dwindling freedom for a few extra bucks.

What was the verdict here?  A sensible night with friends?

Lots of varied advice in here, too.  :)  I know that no one would care if someone took the day after their birthday off where I work (because someone did it about a month ago :)) ).  That said, there isn't much need to celebrate on the actual day.  It's the experience that matters most IMO.  But that said, I missed all of my classes the day after my 21st, so that should give you an idea of how I celebrated my bday.
