Yea but it's basically China.. full of Chinese "invaders"

The indigenous population is well.. "suppressed/ruled over"  according to them..

Exactly like how White people rule the Indians..

But neither parties call it that..

With Taiwan.. the slight difference is.. it's already full of Chinese people..

Chinese people in Taiwan are the exact same Chinese people in China..  but after the old party lost the civil war.. that's where they retreated to..

It's as if the South all retreated to texas, and declared it a country..

Yea to explain Taiwan, i tell ppl.

Imagine America, ok imagine the tea party won and took over, imagine washington DC running away to Alaska.

So Singapore's problem is that the Malay in there are crying that the Chinese took over and made them an asian super-power? Send them back to Malay, it's right next door! But Singapore still keeps Hainanese chicken rice.

There is one issue to note in the Taiwan - PRC conflict though, and that's the fact that the PRC has never ruled the area of Taiwan. The old Republic of China never ceased to exist and is still well and living on Taiwan. The tea party comparison would be more like if the tea party started a war and occupied the whole continental USA while the Obama administration fled to Hawaii and keep on running their politics from there , rather than the tea party winning some democratic process. It's not an easy political situation that will be easily solved. Throughout history China hasn't been one country either, and they are not one people either but contain many ethnic groups.

Anyways, sorry for straying off topic - I think if we were to continue this discussion we should make our own thread instead of hijacking this one

The most indians i've ever seen was watching banshee
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2017109/

btw, best character on there is the trans, asian.

actually the best characters are the minorities, the white main couple are pretty boring, and the white kids really have to die.

This thread is not being hijacked. These are identity questions linked to ‘how Asian are you’. I don’t identify myself as ‘Asian’. In Asia, the inhabitants will never identify themselves as Asian – only by race, ethnicity, nationality or religion. And it eternally amuses me that the ‘Asians’ here think that eating ramen noodles with chopsticks makes you ‘Asian’. (The majority of Asians, in the large majority of countries, eat with their hands.)

And tp4, with your comments on the Malays, you are really asking for it. These guys are very proud of their race and religion and won’t hesitate to use any means possible to rectify perceived insults, or just to beat you down when they see you getting too rich for their liking. Millions of Chinese have lost their lives in the Malay archipelago since they first started pogroms in 16th Century Java and Luzon. The Chinese in this region are comparable to Jews in 1930s Germany. It’s a precarious existence. Don’t pour oil on troubled waters. It takes only the rumor of a slight for these folks to form mobs and chop someone up with parangs, and the Malays are as proud of their history as the Alabama whites taking photos of their lynchings or that Southern White guy I met in the 1990s who said his family was a great one because they owned many slaves and still have their certificates and ‘implements’ (presumably whips and chains?). You should google the May 13, 1969 riots or the 1960s Indonesian massacres. Read the Malays’ comments in English (ie the more Westernized and moderate comments, because the really radical folks only write in Malay and Arabic.) The perpetrators are considered heroes and proud of what they did for stamping down the uppity Chinese.

In the past decade tons of PRC Chinese have descended on Singapore, and they don’t know history, and they don’t know how important it is to respect these people and make all kinds of insensitive remarks about Malays and darker skinned people. This is regrettably a very ‘PRC’, ‘big country’, ‘we’re better than the barbarians’ mentality. Unfortunately the so called ‘barbarians’ are more united and tougher than you.

Throughout history China has rarely won a conflict against a smaller power.

What’s this nonsense about Chinese having civilization and money? Most of Chinese history since Tang Taizong has been paying extortion fees to barbarians of various kinds, being forced to marry their daughters to tribal chiefs, or else being crushed and humiliated by yet other barbarians. 靖康之耻rings any bells? Or how about the Battle of Tumu? Or the Tibetans capturing the Chinese capital in 763AD? If ever there was a Chinese victory, the Chinese side had to spend far more manpower and money to win. It’s almost unheard of for a Chinese army to fight an equal enemy to a draw or better. During the Ming it was even said that one Manchu is equal to thirty Chinese.

The only war China has won in the past few centuries, is against a country its own size – India. Which is because the Hindus suck even more at fighting.

Chinese can’t fight. Even the Philippines has a stronger navy. So don’t piss people off when you know you can’t back up your words with deeds.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

I somewhat agree with you on that comment, but the general essence of this thread was kinda stereotypical and shallow, that's why I just decided to follow suit. As for what constitutes 'Asian' that's kind of a description that spans a huge amount of cultures and people, yet most westerners seem to put this description on east Asians, I.e. China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan and other countries and peoples in that area.

Personally I grew up in a protestant home in western Europe, my ethnic background is more or less exclusively western European - yet my identity changed substantially after living in Taiwan for a few years. By living there I do not mean living an expat life - I frown upon the westerners who lived there for 10-15 years and don't even know the language or culture. I could communicate (albeit with some difficulties of course) in mandarin there after about 3-6 months without formal training. That is, I was put in a Taiwanese high school where my most of my classmates couldn't speak English, my teacher couldn't speak English and the families I stayed with also didn't speak much English. In such a situation you can't really do much but assimilate yourself into the culture and environment. Those few years profoundly changed me and my views of the world. Some of my Norwegian views I have retained of course, but that's the good thing about being multicultural - you can bring the best things from multiple cultures :-)

the US definition (census) is all non white/black ppl to the east of europe.

Mainly b/c whitey can't tell the difference.

THIS IS A FACT!, i'm being nice and letting it slide, white ppl just can't tell asians apart.

And if you're white and offended? tough, all the asians in this thread know and have experienced just how white ppl can't tell the difference.

You're describing a stereotype as a (presumably) bad thing, using a stereotype.  Nice.

why would i be trolling, it's 35 years of life experience. I could also say my friends that have moved out west have also experience this to. Here's is a story of shock and intrigue.

My wife and i moved to Lancaster PA, 8 years ago (have since moved out), she works for a fortune 500 company, but still it's Lancaster PA, basic statistics will show you find 1 asian in 1000.

At her time there she is friends with many of the girls one of them is a mexican girl.

My wife is 5'2, 120 long black haired chinese, pale(she's allergic to sun), no glasses, white person name

Her friend is 5'2, 150ish shoulder length brownish hair Mexican, pretty brown, with glasses, mexican name

These white ppl cannot tell them apart, it's like a mega mystery to them. They would constantly get cross emails that do not pertain to themselves, and just call/msg each other and say, "this sounds like it belongs to your project, want me to forward to you? they got us mixed up again"

You can't call these white ppl racist, b/c they aren't, they're just non-white facial blind, everyone who is not white, just seems the same to them.

Oh yea there's more, later on they hired another asian, and all 3 now get crossed msg's, and lots of times they'd get
"oh hi, soso wanted me to give this to you"
"that's not me"
"what, you sure?"
"no, my name soandso, you want soso over there"

And they're project managers, so not just regular worker bees.

So the most obvious answer is.

Btw, just yesterday my wife was watching a drama where the boy had one of those fruity aprons on, and i was like "why do they have to be so fruity", she's like "it's cute cuz he's a cute flowery boy"
For reference my apron is pure black, it's easier to clean that way too.

No one has posted to this thread since earlier this year, and it seems sad to me. GH just isn't the same without people talking about how Asian or not-Asian they are.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know, in case you were wondering, that I'm no more Asian now than I was in March. However, if any of you have become more Asian, please post your follow-ups here.

BTW, I won't be returning to this topic, so make as much fun of me as you want about the "zombie" thing. Really, go for it. Feel meaningful. Use your own words, but other people's images.

I have not become Asian, but I do continue to eat chips with chopsticks.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

all he needs to say to the world he says with his name

well the guy is kinda struggling with it though :)) he uploaded that photo with the caption:

Quote
I find it highly irritating the fact that nobody seems to believe me when I say that my full legal name is how you see it. I've been accused of using a false and misleading name of which I find very offensive. Is it because I'm Asian? Is it?
Having my fb shut down multiple times and forced to change my name to my "real" name, so just to put it out there. My name.
Yours sincerely,
Phuc Dat Bich

been hearing the joke for awhile but never knew that there was some one with that real name until today though :))

funny is, Phuc is not a family (last) name in Vietnam, so, troll parenting is troll

In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

you could just be a flowery boy, there's no difference.

Btw, just yesterday my wife was watching a drama where the boy had one of those fruity aprons on, and i was like "why do they have to be so fruity", she's like "it's cute cuz he's a cute flowery boy"
For reference my apron is pure black, it's easier to clean that way too.

One of my friends and her daughter are obsessed--literally obsessed--with those flower boys. They watch all their shows and are planning a trip to Korea in hopes of meeting them. 귀여운!  :-*

which is annoying b/c it's these kind of obsessed ppl that "bump up" the ratings on these dramas. What i mean is, their fandom artifically increases the popularity of a drama along with ratings and rankings, which is annoying if you want to watch a good drama, or just watch the dumba$$ flower boy horrible act.

Yes, this affects me b/c my wife is like "hmm don't know if this drama is good or not, guess i have to try", it doesn't help that i yell "holy crap this is the suck" 96% of the time. Yes there will be the odd good drama, but it's like a 4 leaf clover.

My mom tutored a Korean girl for a couple of years in English, getting me hooked on Shrimp Chips in the process.

I also love me some good Anime.

And sushi. Really any Thai/Vietnamese/Japanese/Chinese food.

Yeah, I think this is generally the case, and sometimes Southeast Asian.

I think a lot of people associate Central Asia with Eastern Europe and Southern Asia with the Middle East or India or something.
