Looking for new MMO
« on: Wed, 27 May 2015, 08:56:23 »
Hey guys, getting pretty bored with WoW.  And I am looking for a new MMO.

I have played a rogue in every RPG since AD&D 2nd Ed when I was 7 with MMO's of the Star Wars variety the only exceptions.  Any suggestions?

I have played Everquest, EQ2, SW:G, WoW, WildStar, SWtoR.

I don't care for PVP, I much prefer to raid.  For those that are familar with WoW, the last time I PVP'd was during Season 2 for those swords for pre-raiding.

Maybe you could wait for Everquest next?
I know Tera and Archeage are also very popular.
I've been trying to find a new MMO to play as well but I just can't find a game that I can properly sit down and play. Perhaps the genre just isn't for me no matter how much I want it to be.
I think WoW would still be the best for raiding however. It just has the most money behind it meaning there will be more to spend on end game content.

I'd suggest at least looking at Guild Wars 2. Beautiful world and one of the last MMO's that I actually enjoyed leveling in. The dynamic events where really engrossing. Plus it's free to play after you buy the initial game.

That being said, I haven't played in several years, but when I did (when the game first came out) the end game content was not what I was particularly looking for. The class roles where a bit blurry (as in there where no set healers, tanks, etc), which I did not like, but it was still fun and challenging.

Ultimately I quit because I did not like the PvP however, which is a big deal for me because I LOVE PvP, so you might enjoy the end game a great deal more than I did. Now if you are looking for team, class based PvP games, I could help you out more :D

I heard that the class roles are however very limited. They tried to make class roles irrelevant to the game, but they just ended up making only select classes and party compositions useful.

Have you tried SWTOR or FFXIV? I went through that post WOW phase of looking for a new MMO but I think MMO gameplay just no longer fits with my lifestyle.

I wouldn't go that far... I would say they ended up making only select party compositions optimal (i.e. fastest at completing dungeons). When I was playing,  the "optimal" party was something like 3-4 Warriors and 1-2 Mesmers. The Warrior had the highest DPS in the game and Mesmers could give party attack speed boosts and teleport the party to skip difficult parts. If you wanted to clear fastest for farming end game gear that was the party to get.  However, all the classes brought utility and Mez/War wasn't necessarily the easiest or most fun way to clear, just some people were only there to farm the end game gear. Again, this may have changed since I haven't played in years.

Take a look at FFXIV.  They've done a lot of good since the reboot a couple years ago (or whenever it was) and they're releasing a new expac in about a month.  I think someone articulate could make an argument for it being the best MMO out right now.  (Don't come at me with that korean mmo mess)

There are two open world MMOs that i enjoyed playing for a long time, but both lack end game content in comparison to WoW

Some highlights that i loved about Tera is the graphics and the animations, its goddamn sexy and fun to play
It's solo friendly, but the queue for instances are a nightmare if you are not a tank or a healer
But it gets lonely and to me the community wasn't that great compared to FFIX
Also, free crown *****es get cho key
I played Tera cuz Elin masterraceee

FFXIV so far really has shined as a great mmo so far
The community is amazing, fun, and everyone so far ive met have been extremely helpful, a very positive environment
There is always something for you to do and there is a lot of varieties of activities you can do with your character
honestly just play it, feel the goodness of it
oh and you can download the FFXIV benchmark and you can create a character while you wait for FFVIX to DL/install if you ever dooo
edit: i cant roman numeral for ****

another game that isn't in open world is Warframe
its pretty cool, some instances are fun and killing a whole lotta ****,
I didn't have a good experience with trading, but thats becuase retard me didn't look up prices rite

also waiting for Tree of Savior, so much RO nostalgia

I loved Guild Wars 2 personally. The game devs are super involved with the community and release stuff all the time, the environment is amazing, quests are fun, and the community is great (plus no subscription)

I think if you're coming off of WOW,   You're probably looking for that "community" sensation more than anything else..

But overall,  if you're coming off WOW, at "THIS POINT",  you're porbably at a stage in life where responsibilities and time-constraints would prevent you from the ALL-DAY ALL-NIGHT  funsies with your buddies..

So, i guess what I'm trying to say is.. Childhood came and gone..

Life..

It's a great MMO with a very true-to-character community, although raids tend to be frowned on in certain communities. The best thing about it is the effort to put into earning "gold" actually pays real money. Which you can spend on keyboards and keycaps.

Awesome.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Depending on when you last tried Wildstar, I'd recommend giving it another shot. I've been playing lately and it's pretty good.

Thanks for the ideas.  The wife and I are trying wildstar and liking it so far.  If anyone else plays we are on the exile side of the pve server.

For me the most interesting MMO is The Secret World. Amazing idea for riddles, like finding information in internet to resolve in-game problems. You should definitely try it!

Guild Wars 2 was real fun for the short time I played it. Would probably still be into it right now if I didn't just move and get a new job. Played Archeage for a time when it first came out for us Westerners but it turned out to be a **** sandwich (for me anyways).

Yeah GW2 was one of those games I haven't actually played in a while since it was so fun I kinda got burned out (700+ hours in a few months)

I feel like I'm usually drawn to MMOs with sl00ty as possible armor. GW2 was great for that and that's what initially got me in to the game. It actually turned out to be really fun, just wish I didn't have to stop playing it so soon.

Can never seem to get away from the draw of WoW. Even after unsubscribing from lack of content or friends that stop playing, always seem to start back up.

Tried SWTOR when it first came out and loved the way the questing system worked. Different quests for each class was a brilliant idea, but the cutscene aspect started to get old after a while. The PvP was fun for a while, but the widespread about of realms at launch (and not being connected) was terrible for PvP.
