980 Ti
« on: Sun, 31 May 2015, 17:38:35 »
25% boost above the 980

OK..  so we all knew this was the plan since they launched the 980 (kinda weak)..

Because the 980 had so much headroom..

Here's hoping ATI 390x might eek out ~50% over 290x... to beat the 980 Ti

I have a 980, it is a damn good card, I just wish I would have waited now. I bought it from EVGA so I can step it up to a 980ti (send them my 980 and pay difference, they send me back 980ti) but that leaves me without a GPU for a little while.

Heh. We knew that the 980TI was going to have a "lower-binned" (I.e. crippled) Titan X GPU with less memory, but not that it as going to be this powerful and have such a low price. (in the US).
It was expected to have MSRP of $799, not $649. I think that nVidia did this just to sabotage for AMD which is expected to announce their new GPU generation this week.

Heres hoping AMD can do something good.

I just want to see some really large boosts in performance for one. All these small boosts here and there is getting dull.

That's really the same way I feel with all the different card "tiers" and I don't really notice anything moving between them. Gotta keep "innovating" and making money right? :))

I just want some 16nm/20nm goodness.  :'(

The 28nm process is a dead horse and it needs to be retired.  :))

Damn you 980ti, making my 980 feel inadequate! I actually do not even game all that much anymore ever since keyboards began to consume my life, so I may not bother to upgrade.

Think I'm going to part ways with my 780's and just go with a single 980ti...

Should be a lot less headache and sooner or later grab another one!!!

You gotta WAIT for the 390x man...

Depending on how fast it is,  there may be up to $100 difference in the street-price of the 980ti..

I'm still running dual 680s (4gb models). With DX12 pushing memory stacking, I should be able to   hold out until the pascal release.

well..... for 1080p ur g2g..  but the next 2 top tiers in gaming is  2560x1440 @ 120fps  or 4096x2160 @ 60fps

So, basically 2x to 3x 980Ti

Like I said, fairly high settings. My comment was simply that I am going to try to gimp through one more year on my current cards so I can go right to pascal.

It is, I'll have to sell mine out right if I wait. I can only step up for 28 more days, I would just do it but I can only select the base model acx card, and I would rather have the version with the factory overclock and back plate since that is how my 980 is. I may just suck it up and buy it though, the stock 980ti is still better than my overclocked 980 I assume.

It most definitely is. I have a 980 SC ACX that I ordered on 3/30, and even the base ACX 980ti smokes the crap out of it. I just put in my step it up request ($111 w/ next day shipping, not bad)

You'd probably get the Hybrid no?

Since it's gonna maintain the highest boost clock-consistency throughout loads..

Let me know how long the whole process takes, I really want to step mine up too.  Just to be clear, this http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-4991-KR is the card you are getting? I just hope they make a back plate available for it. I do not really care about have the SC version but I would like to have the back plate.

Arg. trying to spec out an overhauled tower before the tax year rolls over here in Australia... only places here with stock are selling the EVGA card for $1000+, with no ETA for anybody cheaper, or usual places like PCCaseGear, but I kinda need a replacement for my ancient 5970 or there's no point upgrading the machine yet.
Mind you, EVGA don't bother with Step Up or any of their other benefits here, so I guess I should look at other vendors. Any suggestions for comparable performance to the SC ACX @ 1100?

I really think we need at least a FEW "big" AAA that's actually worth playing before the expense is worth it..

For several years now,  it's been less about the Games,  and more about E-peen...

There are plenty of good games right now worth playing lol. For people who actually really game and have 120-144 hz and/or high res monitors (1440p, 4k), the graphics power is huge and worth the expense.

But the AAA stuff of late don't actualy USE graphics power to making the world better.

They use graphics power to render stupid things that gives people a reason to brag about their Epeen..

For example..  GTAV..   the soft shadow system in that game basically eats up 30-40% of the render.

I think the Mantle and DX12  is going to make some waves..  but the games built from the ground up on those are still 2 years away.

I guess it's just banter at this stage but in case you were even remotly serious.
Planetside2 was a great game and probably still is but I stopped.
Devs were listenning to community, the 3 factions is an awesome concept, overall balanced, reguar updates, and it was fukin free.
Only problem the game had, was his you're not playing with a group of 7+ peoples it's not very interesting and you have little impact on the field.

I'm going to wait until they release a naked shot of the plate design.

If the plate  doesn't have enough mounting screws towards the sides for me to cut into the middle of it.  Then I'm gonna get the water cooled hybrid one.

If it has plenty of space..  I'll just get the aircooled one and cut the middle out.. and mount a 120mm cpu cooler.

I do not water cool, I see the benefit, but it's just not something I am willing to risk. I will more than likely go with the EVGA ACX 2.0 one since it'll only cost me 105$ and what it takes for me to ship my 980 to them.

I have heard this ablout the 390x as well. So dissappointing!  :'(

Just signed up for that chase freedom card..  $200 cashback after $500 spending

Hands shaking... 980Ti  Here I come..

Which one are you going to go for? I am trying to decided if I want the ACX 2.0 stock clock speed version that EVGA will let me step up to, or if I should just sell my 980 and buy  a different one.

No evga has the integrated water cooler "hybrid"  it's not the hydrocopper which needs a whole system.

Watercooling graphics cards is IMHO important especially for nvidia, because the boost clock is temperature dependent and you can't lock it..

So if you want consistent boosting,  Cooling it is the ONLY way to do it..

Essentially what that means is, Nvidia cards can't actually be overclocked.. but it can be COOL-Clocked..

Yeah, that's the model I'm getting: 06G-P4-4991-KR

I'm still waiting for my work to send me a copy of the receipt. I'd love to get the Hybrid or a SC model, but it looks like the ACX 2.0 is the only thing I can step up to, which I'm fine with since I didn't actually buy the original card myself and I only have to pay the step up difference out of pocket.

I really wish I did not buy my 980 lol. I am happy with it too, if I sold it to get a different 980, I would not 550$ for it so it would end up costing me more.

The heat is on? As usual with AMD then ...  ;D

Not very high production value with that one. A second second-short teaser videos with bad computer-rendered that don't show anything. This is getting ridiculous, AMD! #junkmarketing

I just started the step up process, I will be sending in my 980, paying the difference, and getting a 980ti. It will end up being 105$, but I may cancel and get faster shipping because I can not be without a GPU for too long.
