There are limits, TP. And year old chocolate is beyond the limit. It must have tasted like old cardboard.

Sometimes I find $20, that is always fun. Or a debit card I thought I lost. That is frustrating.

I'm pretty sure the design spec is +/- 9 months from expiration (such that it won't be poisonous and kill you)

I feel fine... "for now"

Old chocolate can often be rejuvenated by heating it up and re-cooling it.
Citizens United violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president.
So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.”

I concur with fohats method.

The wife found car keys that had been missing for 3 days in the fall when the temp was going up and down.

Chocolate is pretty delicate to heat on the stove, but if you use a double boiler and are very careful not to let the bottom half boil dry, possibly add a touch of cream, it should be OK.

It would. Chocolate in chocolate bars is tempered to become hard. If you reheat it and cool it without using the to the right temperatures and so on then the chocolate will either be too soft or it will get light streaks.

wouldn't this change the texture.

If it is a bar, you can lay it on a warm surface (perhaps 10-20 degrees warmer than room temperature, like the stove that you turned off half an hour ago) for a little while, then refrigerate it to firm it up again. The texture will be different, and the surface may be a bit oily, but it will taste good again and not have that chalkiness that is unpleasant.

Y, I think that's in the tempering process. It's really fascinating how good chocolate is made and the science behind it all.

I find chocolate that's melted and rehardened loses something of its mojo. Chocolate that's got too cold loses even more IMHO. Store in a cool (but not too cool), dry place. Preferably for less than the advertised shelf life. Pockets do not qualify.

I once found a hole in my pocket.... I guess a 50€ note would qualify as the "best" thing, unless you count the engagement ring I gave to my wife, but that was not forgotten about in between, so perhaps it wasn't "found".
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,

20 dollar bill.

Considering this was during a period of serious financial problems, and it was the first time I had worn the coat since about March of that year (I'm guessing I found it sometime around October), finding a 20 dollar bill made me very, very happy.

I did the logical thing and spent it on some much-needed food.

Well hopefully not  "minus 9 months." That would put you a year and a half past the safe to eat date, lol.  I find that the texture and freshness changes right around the exp date, but I'm sure you could safely eat a candy bar a few years after the exp date.  If it was spoiled you would know immediately after opening it.

I once bought a brand new Nautica jacket from Macy's without checking the pockets. Cut to two weeks later and I discover dried up (dog?) **** in a napkin shoved into both of the inner pockets.

Ohh, the best thing we've ever found? Probably my apartment keys after stumbling home drunk and thinking I lost them. I sat on the stoop outside vomiting for about an hour before I realized they were in my pocket the entire time. I was super excited to not sleep in the snow.

Tl;dr Sober or not, I should check my coat pockets more often.

Hahaha, that reminds me of when i lost my only key to a car that i was storing in my garage. When spring came around i found the keys in the driveway, I had dropped the keys outside and because they were warm from being in my pocket they melted into the ice on the driveway and blended in the ice so i couldn't see it and had stayed there till spring.

I'm really not sure what good things i've found in my pocket, only thing i can think of right now is a $5 bill when i was like 7 so that was awesome.
I once found a $50 bill in front of a change room when i was young waiting for my brother to try on clothes, That was wicked.
