Not all the time, but some of the time, you get what you pay for.

Expensive to design (prototypes cost a lot), production is expensive.
Rarity, it doesn't lose value (unless damaged).

Also they're not mass-produced. Economies of scale (lack thereof) and all that.

This is actually the ONE and ONLY reason they're expensive.

I'm knee deep in Machining right now,   It's ridiculously simple to produce those korean customs..  straight cuts all around chamfer, no fillet...

SUPER SUPER CHEAP..  TBH,  i feel like you guys are getting ripped off paying the $400-600..  I can get one produced SINGLE 1 off for $200 (this includes the labor)

I've thought about it, ever since I got to the machine shop here..

Problem is moq, since the shops i'm dealing with are large.

You guys think GH can order 1,500 @ $300  ?

I'd only do a Split-board,  no flat boards..

Says he can make Korean custom-quality cases for cheap, that we're getting ripped off at $400.

Needs 1.5k MOQ to make them for $300.

que? Why can't you get more than 1 for $200?

You could make some money if you put a Kingsaver clone/knock-off back into production.

Quite a lot of reasons, one being that the materials are pretty expensive (acrylic/metal cases, SMD diodes, custom firmware etc.) and that somebody does it by hand for you! I haven't had one, used one a couple times, it was very nice. Perhaps not worth $500 to me, but $500 means to some people as much as $5 to me.
