The word "dank" was used back in the 90's referring to marijuana plants. All you kids using the word "dank" is like using "icey" "fresh" from the 80s-90s..

Not sure who started this back up on the Internet but I'm not going along with it.

Just thought I would let you know.

Meme is originally from a Dawkins book, dank was a mid 90s-mid 2000's slang for marijuana (still used today, but past it's prevalence) deriving from the original Scandinavian term from the 1300's. Hell, even the word ***got comes from a 17th century term for a man hired into military service simply to fill out the ranks at muster. But all these words have changed over time to have utterly different meanings just like almost every other word in the English language. Root words and origins can be super fun to dig into. Check out the A Way With Words podcast is a cool show where they delve into the originating circumstances expressions and words come from. Good stuff.

Umm, pardon me good sir, but the original use of dank was to describe a chamber wherein the air had become stale and moldy smelling. It is a portmanteau of the words damp and rank as the dampness of the room caused a rank odor.

Of course I'm just making this sound as douchey as possible with some made up "facts" because words evolve.
