The Coffee Thread

I couldn't see a thread for the great saviour of mornings!

Pour-over king, or Starbucks junkie? Show and/or tell us of your favourite kit, methods and beans!

For example, I just use an aeropress in the inverted style. Currently using a hazelnut flavoured bean from west india coffee co. kept black for maximum deliciousness.

There's been a lot of talk about coffee in this thread. I personally really love Aeropress and French Press with beans from a local roaster called Coffee Emporium.

Medium-roasted Fair-trade Organic Arabica beans, drip-brewed with a splash of low-fat milk. That is what I like.
Nothing fancy. Sugar or any flavouring should not be needed.

I am not a fan of espresso, latte, cappucino or any of that crap.
When I went to Italy last year, most of the coffee was indistinguishable from tar. It was only at any of the fancier coffee places where the coffee was even passable.

I work in a cafe making coffees on professional stuff, but at home I use a Sage Duo Temp, some cheap De'Longhi grinder and usually Lavazza Esspresso beans.

I miss the ****ty bodega coffee from a corner store in Brooklyn that I would buy before opening up the restaurant. I would take 2 sips while it was hot and then put it down. I would get busy with deliveries, making the food for the day and desserts. 2 hours later I would realize I hadn't drank it and then would proceed to drink it cold. After a while of doing that and not feeling good with milk I switched to black.

I drink Americanos usually as my wife likes lattes. We borrowed my father in laws all in one machine which will never be returned.

Coffee is love, coffee is life.  On weekdays I usually do a french press in the morning, transfer to 2 thermoses and ride that out for the day.  The coffee we have at work is pretty garbage and I'm usually torn away from my desk for the better part of the day. 

I want to try cold brew this summer, I hear good things!

Hrrrrrrmm.. I think you've got a the best method there.

The plastic containers will leech plasticizers into your coffee..   and the METAL containers are metal, so it will change the taste of the coffee because acids react with metals.

Any time I made cold brew I would leave it out overnight on the counter. Room temp may help pull more of the oils/flavors from the grounds I think.

I also just use a giant mason jar, and poor it all through a filter after 24 hours. You don't need one of those things... :p

Recently I just make a little cubano type thing with my aeropress. Not warm enough for cold brew yet

Are you sure?

They sell vegetables and meats that you need to cook..

Or for example tapioca starch, if you don't cook it,  you get food poisoning.

What recipe did you use to brew your cold brew?

I took the normal amount of coffee (relative to water) that I use for hot coffee,

Put the exact multiple relative to the 1500ml ball jar I'm using. left it overnight

But it is way way stronger ..   I've made like least 20 posts today already..

you can use honey, but honey is actually a bit sour. so depending on the coffee, it may or may not work well.

Check for lighter roasts if you have any local rosters or can order from a roaster online

Maple syrup, coconut sugar, agave syrup are all nice in coffee. Although I'm not a huge fan of agave as it has a distinct flavor that I don't like with my coffee.

Coconut sugar is my wife's go to.

Also properly made cold brew coffee should not be bitter at all and should basically taste like chocolate milk:)

So first impression is good.

I went ahead and added some milk and it made an excellent breakfast drink.

I put the coarse grounds (15 clicks on the hario slim) in a mason jar with water (3 cups) let it sit out overnight (12 hours) on the counter then poured through a nut milk bag into a bowl then filtered it again through the aeropress.
