The cost per switch is slightly more than say  a Gateron or Kaihl and I'm sure that that is factored into the  cost, but I think that the  quality of the board components play a big role in the cost of the board.  With that said, you won't find many for say $85 with Cherry MX switches.

If you are willing to get the TKL you  will pay less      http://www.amazon.com/Filco-Majestouch-2-Tenkeyless-FKBN87ML-EB2/dp/B0053U3YA0/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1459208823&sr=1-6&keywords=majestouch++keyboard

We could always get an extension number pad cause most of us prefer numberpads on the left side instead of right side

And TKL looks more appealing

I own a fullsize Filco Majestouch 2 with Black MX switches and I can vouch for it being a very nice keyboard, although stock keycaps are really poor.
Albeit, if it's gonna be your first mechanical keyboard and if you've never tried any MX switch before, you might wanna go for a cheaper solution.
It's easy to get ahold of used Cherry G80-3000s.

That looks like a real fine keyboard, sounds like you are definitely going to get it, so since you know you want it, try not to worry too much about spending a few extra bucks. Another option that cost a bit less if you're interested is a WASD V2 with doubleshot PBT keycaps:

http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/mechanical-keyboard/wasd-104-key-doubleshot-pbt-black-slate-mechanical-keyboard.html

I have one with MX Greens and it has a nice premium feel to it, and it looks the way I want a kb to look.

This thread is interesting to me because if you look at the switch options for the WASD linked above, you can see that some switch choices are extra $$ and some are not. In this case the MX Blacks do not cost extra, but browns, clears and greens do. I do wonder why that is???

Enjoy your new keyboard.

Filcos are very nice keyboards to type on, moreso than WASD or KUL. MX Black keyboards aren't more or less expensive than others, you're mostly paying for Filco quality.

That said, I would get the cheaper one (the caps with side printing), and use the extra money to buy or start saving up for a nice PBT keycap set.

If you decide to get the best cherry mx black it might cost you a bit. Vintage mx blacks are worth it from what I understand.

I think gaterons have more or less overrode that in a lot of peoples opinions.
Might as well just get readily available and much cheaper switches, rather than combing classifieds hoping for a decent deal.

Cherry MX Black switches are actually the cheapest and most abundant of the series. Cherry MX Blues are also somewhat common, but Cherry MX Blacks are easily the most common. They show up in mass-produced keyboards like the TG3 touchpad keyboard that can be purchased for ~$25 shipped on eBay.

You mean tkl? Tkl = tenkeyless = no number pad

If you have to type a string of numbers the numberpad is slightly easier, but when you learn to type with the numbers in the top row you can be fairly fast.   It takes practice.  I'm happy  to sacrifice the numberpad for deskspace.  Some people have a seperate usb numberpad, so if they are I don't know doing their taxes or something they can use that.

Yeah I agree. I'm currently typing on a browns that don't have numberpad. I have been using the top number row and only recently discovered that entering number on numberpad is way more efficient. I don't think table space is an issue either. Also, I've had topre HHP2 before and i thought that keyboard wasn't functional.

Are MX Blacks better than MX Reds? I'm having a hard time deciding on what switch color to get when I get my new keyboard, I plan on getting a Ducky... it's just that I used to use MX Blacks on a Steelseries 6gv2... and I'm using Reds on a Corsair K95 now that I'm selling... I like both linear switches but I really just can't tell which one I liked better for consistency/double tapping etc... I feel like I should go back to Blacks.... :P

both are ****. if you're getting an MX switch get blues or greens. or better yet, get the superior topre switch.

I don't like tactile clicks lol...... I like linear, what's so much better about Topre than Cherry ?

so buy a 5 dollar keyboard from staples, same feeling as linear

I've never had a rubber dome feel completely linear. Even the worst, most mushy rubber domes that I've tried have had some form of tactility. If I'm getting a linear keyboard, I want it to be totally linear, not inconsistent.

Keycap: Would you suggest MX reds or MX blacks? I play some games that require quick reactions and controls on just the arrow keys and spacebar (double taps)... wouldn't it be better to have a switch that rebounds faster? I use reds now I just can't decide if I should stay on them, I mean I really like reds to be honest but maybe it's just the way my corsair k95 is made? does ducky have way better build quality?
