Slither.io Strategy Guide_

1.   Use a prediction-free mouse, non-anglesnapping

      ___ the reason for this is, This game requires precise movements and control of snake shape.  angle snapping means, your snake won't be able to turn at the input angle..     If you don't have a gaming mouse,  Dig through your old old mice, maybe you'll find a WMO, IMO, or IME..   





2.   Be aggressive

      ___ this game is about Eating other snake, because there is no effective defensive maneuver,   You must be on attack ALL THE TIME.

3.   Do not waste too much time at the "fringes" of the map.

      ___ the Fringes of the map is typically where the new snakes spawn,  They are Just as dangerous as the larger snakes,  and just as hard to kill, but the payoff is Low.

4.   Go straight to Town (center of map)

      ___ this is where all the action is happening.. one dead large snake is more mass than collecting stray dots on the outside for 20 minutes...

5.   Small-Strategy (50-9,999)

      ___  From the fringe, kill small snakes until 150 units, (yes very small) this is all you need to take down ANY snake, large or small. Now head to town and rush down large dead snakes.. (central of map)


6.   Large-Strategy (10,000-34,999)

     ___  when you are sufficiently Large,  do not try to Rush Down the big dead snakes,  Try to Section it off, or Surround the other smaller snakes doing the cleanup for you..  You are not as maneuverable, and you WILL die because the smaller snakes will cut you off during rush down.

7.   Extra-Large-Strategy (35,000-80,000)

     ___  When You're this big, you can't turn at all..  Realistically, any small snake can take you out should they decide to..
            The only strategy to stay alive, is to stay near the fringe of the map where Snake density is Lower..  DO NOT chase any more dead carcasses under any circumstances.. ONLY ever surround (BOA) other snakes..
    ___ Essentially,  you want to look for the dead carcasses,  and surround that ENTIRE pile of snakes which are eating the carcass.. You can NOT yourself battle the smaller snake for the dots. You do not have the maneuverability.

8.    When Constricting an enemy keep an eye on the space around you..

     ___ If you notice another large snake is trying to BOA you , you need to temporarily stop constriction and create space for yourself.  There is a chance that he may thwart your catch..  but it's better than dying..   Against a good player, you're almost surely going to die, if you get constricted..


9.    Turning is wide when you're larger,

      ___ the attack distance by other snake is much longer, as in YOU can be attacked from much FURTHER AWAY, because you can't turn sharply..    You have to keep more distance when you're a big snake..



10.    Refractory Snake

     ___ After a snake finishes a meal, the player is mentally satiated, and at this moment for about 1-3 seconds, he is very vulnerable, and will make stupid moves.
     ___ You can take advantage of this, by 1, not doing the same, forget about feeling good about eating a big snake, Continue attacking instantly, and 2, increase aggression against a recently fed snake. 


11. Use a High Mouse DPI

   ___ You need it to turn faster, the game only cares about Angle relative to the head of the snake, it doesn't care about absolute position of the cursor..
   ___ So Crank that DPI to ~1600dpi for 1280x800 or ~3200dpi for 2560x1600....



PC Performance Tip:


Slither.io runs great in Chrome,  much slower in firefox, "depending on how powerful you pc is"

There is also a Slither.io Extension, with Fps counter,  Zoom function, and  Ultra-Low graphics setting, for maximum Steady framerate..

TRUST ME.. you need to use the Low graphics setting to be the BEST.. it's important.

I'm really digging this game!  I have fond memories of playing Snake on my Nokia barphone and Nibbler in the arcade.  This is A+.

However, I wish there was a way to create a private server to play against other GeekHackers.

Download the mod that TP linked in the other thread. There are about 200 servers, so it's best if we pick one to play one.

But if you think about it 500 people per server,  500 servers, 250000 people playing..



I am contemplating team strategy right now..  But I don't see it being highly effective, because of how unpredictable and fast the controls are..  a coordinated attack would have to be extremely precise.. and therefore dangerous.   There's really NO TIME to call out attacks and play patterns.. 

This is primarily due to the game dynamic where every snake is dangerous,  The pace of the game Never slows down..

And as you get larger.. You can't turn fast enough to risk getting so close to eachother..


And there's no Transferable mass.. like in Agar,  where you can quickly puff up a friend..

This was my best for today. I got 39-40k yesterday without the mod and did slightly better just now with the mod. I think the mod help, but the wide turn radius makes surviving really difficult when you are huge. Also everyone is out to get you the bigger you are. Fun game.

My best run is 34,xxx

I've spent most of my time thus far mastering turning skills and aggressive attack angles..

So, that's not conducive to a high score, because I'm taking alot of risk at all sizes.



I think, If I am to go for a score run later..   I would get to around 15,000, then move to the middle ring, rather than the central location, because snake density make off side attacks too unpredictable at the center..

mmmm.... probably ok but users outside US might not have the best connection if we all stuck to one server in the eastcoast.
