Hurricane Matthew
« on: Wed, 05 October 2016, 06:40:13 »
The storms has trashed Haiti, currently trashing cuba a bit, and now it looks to be on the way to my state of Florida, and I live on the  coast, so it looks like we're going to be in for a ride.

Already stocked up on supplies, thoughts are with anybody affect by the storm.  :(

We're probably gonna feel some pretty bad winds and storms over here in SC, my deepest thoughts go out to those who will/are affected by the storm

Fellow florida boy reporting in, My family is preparing as well. Do you remember hurricane charlie? Missed me by only a few miles. Completely destroyed surrounding neighborhoods, but our house suffered no damage. Here's hoping all of us can weather the storm well.

I remember Hurricane Charlie! I was in Orlando at the time as a child... Flight was delayed for days which sucked.

I'm a little worried about this loop the loop that the hurricane is thinking about.

Beyond that it seems as though my area is just under a tropical storm warning. Stay safe, Floridians.

Orlando, Central FL signing in. I have minimal supplies and not very worried about it. My building is hooked up to the downtown power grid and we rarely lose power and if so, not for long. My apt is made of cinder block too so, just chillin' in my bunker.

As a former resident of Florida, it now looks to me like this is just going to be a monumental rain storm.
"It's 110, but it doesn't feel it to me, right. If anybody goes down. Everybody was so worried yesterday about you and they never mentioned me. I'm up here sweating like a dog. They don’t think about me. This is hard work.
Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."

Good luck everyone in its path - I hope you, your families, your pets and your keyboards escape unscathed!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Oh hey, Hurricane Charlie.  I was on a sailboat heading to the Keys when that one started coming in, had to turn around and head back.  It was my only hurricane exposure, as a Wisconsinite.

My thoughts are with all you Floridians and others affected by this.  Stay safe.

I don't really get this feeling. I mean we've known Charlie was coming for at least a week, and for a couple of weeks we knew it was a possibility. I'll have to look at global events though because I can only speak for hurricanes in the Atlantic (since that concerns me most).

Hurricanes happen pretty regularly though, and give a decent amount of time to prepare.  It does feel like in general there are more crazy/weird things going on, but that might just be a reporting/awareness thing more than an actual trend.

Good luck everyone who is in it's path

Jacksonville here reporting in, the office closed earlier and I'm driving down to Orlando to pick up my parents and then move westward to Tampa. Bringing all my keyboards with me so we can do a little meet up. It sucks because I just relocated from Charlotte NC to Jacksonville 3 weeks ago.

East Orlando, we are prepped and ready.  Computer models have the eye just barely hitting us.  We will ride it out unless it gets upgraded to Cat 5, which is not likely.  Thoughts and prayers appreciated, especially for the people in the Carribean who have already lost so much.

And fohat, please stop trying to use this tragedy as an opportunity to score cheap political points.

Be safe bro. Some of our friends in Haiti are telling us its pretty bad in some areas but not as bad as it could have been in others. Of course the problems there are only getting started it's all the aftermath, the flooding, and what comes with the dirty water, even less food supplies etc. that they'll have to deal with for some time. What we all take for granted is many of the folks in certain regions didn't even know a storm was coming.

My parents are an hour from Jacksonville so they're planning for the worst but hoping it skirts them like all the rest have this season.
