Only one thing keeping me from Novatouch'n my RF87U
« on: Sat, 10 December 2016, 11:16:15 »
So, I have a barebones Novatouch. And I have an 87U. And I really want to swap everything out and get a nice set of keycaps but... what do I do about the spacebar?

My dilemma is a can't seem to find a 6u mx stem spacebar that has the stem centered. I don't know if I'm just not looking hard enough or if it just doesn't exist.

I'm almost tempted to scrap my plans for a novatouch'd RF all together and just get rid of the RF and keep the Novatouch. Or I guess the only other option would be to buy a Topre stem spacebar and not switch sliders on the RF. Halp.

I would keep the RF if I were you, as the rattling noise is unbearable on the novatouch. Everything feels loose compared to the real deal.

Unless your planned keycap set disagrees with it, can't you just get a Topre PBT spacebar and use it with other Novatouch'd keys?

I assume I'd have to leave the spacebar Topre slider in, because Novatouch and Topre stem don't agree with each other from what I've read.

Which is what I guess is the route I'll be going. But the key kit that I want won't really look right (or in my head it doesn't) with a pbt spacebar.

It's in the mail.. so I haven't gotten my hands on it yet. Is it really that bad?

The NovaTouch doesn't rattle per se, as in stabilizer rattle, but it does suffer from noticeable upstroke clack, as does the RealForce RGB. However, a set of silencing rings dampens that noise very nicely.

If your plans are to put Dasher on Topre switches, then I recommend installing silencing rings on the NovaTouch and keep the RF for something else.
