Much Ham
« on: Fri, 31 March 2017, 01:31:47 »
So Tp4 were @ the costco yesterday looking at the prosciutto and serrano..

Basically $150 for the whole big leg 15lbs.

Now,   is that way too much to buy ?   How long does it take to eat all that..

Quite like the flavor the times've tried it, but noticed it's quite salty..  Are --NORMAL-- (Non T-Rex) people able to finish this quantity in a reasonable amount of time, before spoilage ?

AFAIK it doesn't really go bad if you keep it dry enough..
And you  need a really sharp knife to cut really thin slices

I bet we could use that in a week in the summer out at the cottage. Wood fire pizzas.

It's cured meat. As long as you aren't reckless, it will last a few months easily. Just slice off what you want to eat, because the slices won't last nearly as long as the whole.

As for how long it takes to eat all that, it really depends. In my family a whole leg would last a couple of weeks at the most.

Just hang it up on your front porch, it will last years. In fact wait at least 6 months before cutting it up for maximum flavour

Just put up a sign next to your ham that says "no attack birds, deer or bears" that way they will know the ham is not for them.

Let me tell you something right now, if you never experienced the deliciousness of fresh cut prosciutto off the leg with a pint of your fav and some cheese, you're not "lifing" correctly. Pull the trigger on that bad boy and invite your buddies over!
