Switch Testing Centre
« on: Fri, 31 March 2017, 21:42:36 »
Does anybody know of a place I could go in Canada to test out like.. *all* switches? Cherries, Gats, Zealios... is that a thing? Or would I have to order a switch tester? I've done a bit of googling and can't find anything.

Thanks all.

Edit: I should have mentioned, I'm near Toronto
Edit2: Thanks guys!

If someone wants to know Halverson advice?

Spend years buying and selling boards to try stuff out. Sadly, these days(after the cherry patent expired) there are too many for me to care and try. Go alps and topre and call it a day!

Oh! If there's ever a Toronto keyboard meetup again, great place to finger some switches!

Don't know about a place to test all the switches besides a meetup, but https://www.novelkeys.xyz/ has good selection of switches/switch testers. Haven't personally bought from there, but it has a good reputation on /r/mechmarket, and I plan on getting a tester with some of the odder things that aren't in normal switch testers.

hahaa.

Under the description for their 3d printed key holders, they say you have to sand the slots to make the switches fit.. Yet they want $15 for it..

You'd think for $15, they'd sandpaper it for you. hahaha..

Haha yea that's a little ****ty.

A 25 slot switch tester with switches for $33  let's you try all the Cherry switches, 3 different vintage Cherry switches, all Gateron (besides yellow), and all the different weights of Zealios. So in my opinion not a bad deal regardless.

Tp4 am still of the camp that the switch tester will not give you a good enough grasp of how the full keyboard will feel.

And if you go through and spend $30 on it.. idk.. you're already 30% towards a whole keyboard..

Then there's the issue of newegg sales,  $25 for their 9000 v2.. ridiculously good value.
