Sit up straight..
« on: Wed, 12 April 2017, 15:18:02 »

Lounge back and completely relax in your chair.

Take a deep breath..

--Now sit up straight

Now take another deep breath,  notice the difference?-

Stop listening to xperts, all this ergonomic chair pseudo science has given us the illusion that a chair can support us, and help us engage in maximum seated laziness.

This is simply not how the body works.

Spinal alignment requires good ol' Muscle.. muscles you already have.

If you can't stand,  sit,   but if you must sit, sit straight..

when you sit up straight, relax your belly.

Many people, because they have a fear of being labeled fat, or out of inane modesty, have adopted to tucking in their bellies as a standard erect position..

Relax ur mid section, and breath deep..

I think actually using stomach muscles helps properly support the body/back.  That's what I've been taught in physical therapy when I went for lower back problems.  Relax your stomach completely and feel how your body just settles downward.

You are correct,  but there is a difference in the natural erect posture vs the stomach tuck that many of the more conscious peeps do..

Well it matters how you discern comfort..

Sitting up straight is an effort-ful endeavor, especially if you're at the desk ALL DAY..

So our all day, work lifestyle has brought upon us fatigue of sitting.

Now, moving ahead, after the many hours, a habit would develop such that to reduce fatigue, we slouch and lay back more.

This has two effects, it provides immediate relief in terms of some of the muscle's effort,  but taken in the long term, the muscles atrophy such that we can no longer hold our erect posture nearly as long as we could before.

This cycle of deterioration most likely happens very early for modern humans going through the school system.

So eventually when we hit the office, we're already chronic slouchers..

Self fulfilling and Deadly is the Chair..

It's not a discussion upon whether you're more or less comfortable,  it's that you've already done SO WRONG.. that you've become physically incapable of the healthy alternative.

Just as flat keyboards have everyone convinced that turning their wrists so deeply is OK..

It is NOT OK.. and you're paying for it.. come RSI.

I switch my position around a lot at work - slouching, sitting up straight with my back against the back of the chair, sitting up straight on the front edge of the chair, leaning back with my legs up, at 45 degrees with one leg curled under me and so on.

The variety helps a bit.

I try to stretch my legs when I can under the desk too.

I used to have one of those chairs you kneel on, but ended up putting my feet on the knee rest and hunching forward with my elbows on my knees.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Another option is Yoga balls for chairs, they WILL build core muscles, so much that it's advised that you only use it for 10 minutes at a time when you first start.

Sounds silly, but you would be amazed how much you move to balance on them.

Maybe you're so subconsciously self conscious, that it's causing your muscles to tense during office hours where you perceive others may be judging you.

Psyche, am i doing this right ?

Almost. That would be self-presentation concerns / high self-monitoring (being aware of how others perceive you). But yes that could be it. Even though I have my own office, my door is open. Perhaps I don't have the pain when I close my door for the whole day.

Many people, because they have a fear of being labeled fat, or out of inane modesty, have adopted to tucking in their bellies as a standard erect position..

Relax ur mid section, and breath deep..

Yup, I found out a few years ago that I subconsciously suck in my belly, even when sitting and there's no one around. I try to let it go sometimes, but years of habit and self consciousness still have me sucking it in.

This is detrimental to your healthy, because it cuts off circulation to your lower intestine, increases pressure on your heart, and reduces your Oxygen intake as it prevents your lungs from inflating deeply.

Some symptoms,  impaired / weak digestion, irritable bowel, reduced physical and mental endurance, lightheadedness upon standing caused by (large pressure differential).

I only have my door closed when I REALLY have to do something that requires 200% concentration, like reading a stash of papers.

My room is across the printer in the hallway. So imagine when people don't play farmville but rather come out to "socialize". Where to do it? In FRONT. OF . THE EFFING PRINTER.

But yeah, door closed is typically bullsh*t

But yeah, door closed is typically bullsh*t

When Tp had an office in china,  it was such a large firm that people did very little 'wurk' per person.. They goofed off all the time.. it was very laid back..

Since Tp didn't actually have to wurk even as hard as they did,  or actually at all..  Tp just walked around bothering people and made snack runs all day..  at least once every 40 minutes..

I hate my office chair. When at home -> zero issues. Coming home from day at the office -> back pain. what gives?

Maybe you're so subconsciously self conscious, that it's causing your muscles to tense during office hours where you perceive others may be judging you.

Psyche, am i doing this right ?

Almost. That would be self-presentation concerns / high self-monitoring (being aware of how others perceive you). But yes that could be it. Even though I have my own office, my door is open. Perhaps I don't have the pain when I close my door for the whole day.

im always ****ing sus on ****s that close their office door. There are only two times that a door to an office should be closed. Meetings with ****s face to face and phone conference. Otherwise you probebly in there playing farmville when you should be grinding them numbers like the number monkey you are

Was there nothing in it for you if you personally worked harder?

Here, I can make promotion if I stick my head out. Earn more, more priviliges, more say in the company's direction.

Nope. I couldn't be promoted, because I was not paid over the table for my consulting done there.

My job description at the time could be simplified as,   find problems,   fix it,  by any means necessary  (minus murder, i was actually specifically told not to kill anyone)..

Not that tp4 is a killer..  but accidents in china are not always accidents..   NOT that I, the tp4, would personally kill.

Promotion = more ****s up the ass, sure I can take a company car for whatever I feel like, sure I can **** off in the middle of the day and come back whenever, sure if I want something purchased it happens, sure people listen to what I have to say (and then probebly call me a wanker behind my back)....

BUT ****ING HELL if people decide to be lazy and **** **** up it is me that gets the initial ass kicking (which is the ****ing worst ass kicking), its me that has to problem solve the issue, it is me that does the 5 extra hours to sort it out after everyone has left. I have to look like the bad guy and tell people off if someone higher up has an issue

I ****ing hate it.

All my dildos are straight. I have OCD. I don't like disorderly dildo collections.
