Here's the deal, all my keyboards have no letters on them, I can touch type easily but it's a bastardized version of touch typing, 5 fingers on the right hand and just my index on my left

How do i fix this god awful habit?

Force yourself to use the "correct" fingers. You'll take a hit in typing speed, but it's the only way.

I went from 1 finger on my right hand and 3 on my left hand to proper touch typing 100 wpm with https://www.typingclub.com and using 10fastfingers.com for practice. The trick is you have to have discipline. Nobody is going to stand behind you making sure you're using the right hand. If you want to improve you have to be devoted.

IMHO, typing doesn't truly require the  fjfjfjfjfjfj  jjjj ffff   type of practice..

What you really need is a key map on screen and some short words,

Then instead of looking at your hands,  just look at the sheet map, and FEEL for the letter with your hands without looking at your hands, LOOK at the keymap on screen..

This will be a simulation of what's happening for touch typing as you eventually develop the memory .   You're FEELING for the keys

fjfjfjfjfjfj  imho is going to make this process slower.   because instead of making the entire motion to the key, people just place their finger over the key they know is the right key,  and do ffff jjjj..  That's not the same feeling as moving to f or moving to j..

So they're fundamentally developing the wrong set of motions doing that type of practice.

When my kids were starting the teacher recommended a black handkerchief draped over the hands while typing.
Cheap, easy, and versatile.
From the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 :

The   Congress   shall have Power
To declare War,  grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
To provide for calling forth the Militia  to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

I changed to dvorak in order to learn to type correctly and it worked pretty well

If you can already touch type qwerty maybe using something colemak would be a good change.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Use the correct positioning, play some sort of typing game (Typing of the Dead is a classic.. don't know how easy it is to find for PC now though) and don't look at the keyboard.

Yeah man I agree, Typing of the dead is a fun way to learn!

Forcing yourself not to look will pretty much do the trick. If you can't do that, put a small towel over your hands while you type so you can see the keyboard :)) [or go blank keycaps :) ]

If ya'll decide on typing of the dead..

MAKE SURE.. to type the SPACES as well..  the game doesn't require you to do it,  but it will not count it as a mistake either..

In order to ensure better meshing between your typing of the dead skills with NORMAL typing,  it's best that you type the space ..

Eventually, you will be so adept at typing/ typing games that it won't make a difference either way,  but this phase of initial training is important, because you want your base skills to be built as ~strong and ~correct as possible.

Another important thing is resting..   Don't play an hour a day.. that's over-training too much, and it will not improve your skills nearly as efficiently as 30 minutes a day..   which allows your background learning processes to encode into reflex memory.
