Bluetooth Keyboard?
« on: Sat, 01 July 2017, 03:11:29 »
I'm interested in purchasing another keyboard.  I have a brown blackhawk I use for gaming and a topre I use at work.  I much prefer the silent modded topre Leopold, although it does  not have NKRO.

But this new board would sit in the living room, for HTPC use, might use it instead of my laptop keyboard from time to time.  I' not 100% sure I really need this thing, but I can see it being handy way to grab and transfer into another room to wok on a server off the network etc.

I was thinking about getting this board with reds:
https://www.amazon.com/DREVO-Wireless-Bluetooth-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B01N7HNY1F/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1498895917&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=bluetooth%2Bkeyboard%2Bmechanical&th=1

I looked up the GON NS NerD 60, and while it is beautiful $500 is a bit much for what I will be using it for I think.
Alternatively, I think I could build my own, but not sure I want to embark on that adventure wit so many other unfinished projects!

edit: or for those l33t gamer using Bluetooth headset with mic; how did you all do it?

Never Minila Air. It has non standard keys and you can't change the keys in future.

This looks interesting.

Thank you for your suggestion. I knew about the dongle but I'm not sure how practical or reliable it is in a real-world gaming session. Does the Bluetooth disconnect in the heat of battle?

Well, my keyboard isn't bluetooth, but by today's standards there shouldn't be a big difference between bluetooth and cable, so you won't have to worry.

The plum nano 75's lack of dedicated arrow keys is a deal breaker for me (HTPC use).

I know... Logitec but considering: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Living-Room-Internet-Connected-Bluetooth/dp/B00ZOPVSKW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1499104701&sr=8-5&keywords=htpc+keyboard

My PC is like that.  Well technically it comes with a wifi/bluetooth sub-board, but I forgot to install it before I mounted the mobo on the case.  So now if I want to install it, I have to unmount the mobo first (there's a screw at the back of mobo).  I could do that, but I find now that my mobo is stuck on the case because of (I'm guessing) one slightly offset hole on the case.

So I bought a PCI-e wifi card with bluetooth functionality.

A weird thing is, as for a PCI-e cards, I would think that both wifi data and bluetooth data can go through PCI-e. But no, on all such PCI-e wifi/bluetooth card, only wifi data goes through PCI-e; for bluetooth, they all have a separate cord that goes to the onboard USB……

This is so untrue, you can easily grab a brand new set in different colours from aliexpress. If you meant GMK/SA sets specifically... you can also say never to ergodox/planck/most 40%, as they aren't perfectly supported. This will only leave you with Fullsize, TKL and 60% to play with

I mean this hobby is very much about playing around with limitations, and the filco minila has the best package in the same price tier without question.

I can't find a Minila Air with bluetooth.  Doe sit really exist?
N/M found one https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2156

The spacebar looks real small and price is steep for ABS keycaps?

If they made a layout with bluetooth like my leopold FC660C that would be perfect.

Maybe I should just get a dongle for my FC660C lol  it's not NKRO, but light use so who cares?

This would be for light use and maybe some retro gaming from the living room coffee table.

You may want to also look into the Anne Pro. Its not necessarily better than the Drevo, but it has an entire subreddit at /r/annepro where the community has solved a lot of its issues as well as documented mods for it.

Thanks, but it needs to have arrow keys, since they are used all the time for retropie, actually they will likely be the most used keys on the board so I won't want another layer for them.

I'm eying this board: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZBVKLX/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A33NGRV9BJAC4E
It has pretty much everything I require and I would get to try cherry blacks which should be ok for light gaming I would think.

Varmilo is quite solid too. Although if you're gonna use it with a mac, I would check for compability.

Anne Pro

I got mine for the htpc. Remapped it same as my other 60s. Totally standard layout. Pairing is a bit awkward, but it's been perfectly reliable for me.
