Dehydrators

Thinking about getting a dehydrator to make jerky, I have lots of meats I need to get creative with. Anyone make their own jerky here?

I have done it, pretty simple. Come up with a good seasoning mix. Soy sauce first, then dry rub is a good start.

Slice meat with the grain, not against, otherwise it will crumble.

DIY

All it is,   is  a fan,  a heating coil,  and an enclosed food rack..

Use a furnace filter behind the fan to reduce dust..

Easiest way, I could think of is...  A cardboard box, or wooden crate + space heater + box fan + furnace filters.

Just use a box fan:

I've done it and it's pretty easy. You don't want to heat the meat. You want it to remain COOL while you remove moisture.

it depends on where u live..

if you're in the cold, as in right now, it's winter,  you're gonna need some heat, otherwise it'd take forever..

It seems that most people think you need heat to make jerky. I just wanted to communicate that you want the meat to stay cool, and not cook it while you dry it.
