Newegg does this all the time. When they sell out, they put "no stock" because they know they'll be getting more soon. Why take down the page if they're going to be putting it right back up once they get more. The only difference is the EK is that he doesn't know when CC is going to make them of not so EK must just leave them as "no stock"

From a business sense would would have made more sense to just completely hold off on any announcements until the sale was actually ready to roll, or if technical difficulties were experienced to take away the "Soon..." until it was actually going to be soon. I kinda like EK sometimes. I was even offered some kind of job on reddit via PM after giving some constructive criticism. Companies don't just magically get better, it takes place from people saying what they do and don't like. If a lot of people voice their opinion they may change their method to keep customers happy.
If apple kept the iPhone 6 in a "coming soon" state for ages without a definitive release date people might elect to buy an Android phone. After waiting over a week for uncertainty and "Soon..." I decided to buy a Coolermaster keyboard and a bunch of keys from feng instead of a leopold and three clacks. Sure if I have some money left in the budget I may try and pick up the Oktoberfest CC, but I'm no longer interested in a 3 cap purchase like I was previously because I don't like being told I'm not a customer, AND I don't approve of the current method of announcement and tease.

I guess that's exactly what they're trying to prevent by saying that you can't alter your shipping address, which only just occurred to me after you mentioned it. I would assume that they'd let you back out of the purchase and it would just go to some other random person, but the point is that you can't transfer your win to a person of your choosing.
It's not an ideal solution but I guess it's the best they can do under the circumstances.

I got a call on the phone today from someone asking about a geekhacker here, said that he placed an order years back under a different alias and they wanted me to cross reference what was provided as an alternate address. Changing it to "Pay within 48 hours" would be silly if it's going to take however many weeks for people to even know if they are permitted to buy one. Some people can't just keep cash in their pockets waiting for an unknown amount of time just 'in-case'. Penalising them for not being able to afford it would be stupid, it's not like people can guarantee how much they will have for weeks on end.

to be honest, if you don't have the disposable income to hold on for clacks and the wait from EK, you may want to rethink your purchases.
The chances of you winning the drawings for all the caps are pretty damn small, you should prob spend no more than $60~ on your EK purchase here from CC

Just wanted to give everyone an update; stopped by earlier this week but GH was down...
Drawing winners have not been notified yet. We had some difficulties getting the drawing system backend functioning properly with PayPal invoice API and sorting through the thousands of entries for the few people abusing the system added a bit of delay as well. Good news is that we've got the bugs ironed out and drawing winners should be notified later today. We appreciate everyone's patience; getting the drawing system working took a bit more effort than we first envisioned, but we think we've finally managed to bring a, close to, equal chance at obtaining one of these keycaps to everyone in the community. Haunting our website is no longer required.

We had some difficulties getting the drawing system backend functioning properly with PayPal invoice API and sorting through the thousands of entries for the few people abusing the system added a bit of delay as well. Good news is that we've got the bugs ironed out and drawing winners should be notified later today. We appreciate everyone's patience; getting the drawing system working took a bit more effort than we first envisioned, but we think we've finally managed to bring a, close to, equal chance at obtaining one of these keycaps to everyone in the community. Haunting our website is no longer required.
Ironically enough, it just started storming here :eek:

Actually, there very well could have been thousands of entries just among GH and DT members. If each person entered all 8 drawings, only 125 users needed to enter for there to be 1000 entries.

So out of all that went out, is it safe to say that there were more of some than others? I got the "Oktoberfest" topre, and it seems as though a bunch of other people did as well.

I think it's probably because with the normal system, if you didn't score a clack, it was "your own fault" for not being fast enough/camping enough/clicking fast enough, although the chances for scoring one were very small, at the end of the day, you felt responsible for getting it or not. With this system, the control is taken completely out of your hands--no matter how quickly you registered, you fate was decided by a random number generator, so you feel like you have someone else to blame, even if it is a much more fair system, which it almost undoubtedly was. It's kind of like how I feel comfortable driving fast myself, but am incredibly uncomfortable to be in the car while someone else is speeding--it's just that the feeling of control or influence is gone. To me, though, it is nice to see a bit more diverse distribution of the caps.

Only thing that annoyed me was that I camped out with-out sleep for ages before we even knew it was going to be a lottery and then I only went into the draw for one due to not wanting to be forced to pay for all of them if I won :pI said people should have signed up for as many as possible. Half the fun is trying to trade for what you want if you can't out right buy it.

This is definitely true. With the old sale I made sure to be at the computer at the exact moment it started. I hit the send button at exactly 0 seconds on the hour and I did not get it. At that point it became dependent on a combination of network conditions and the fact that I was some fractions of a second late because I did not use a bot to send the email (as I'm sure some people did).
How can anyone talk about more control when there were many others who did everything right, as I had, and still did not get it? It also meant everyone had to take the time out to be at the computer at that moment or make some other accommodations. The drawing gives people the opportunity to actually have a life.

I got my Dad and brother to sign up after getting them hooked on mechanical keyboards this year, but none of us won. Just hope they didn't see 3 people with same last names and cancel us out.

I'm starting to think that my Oktoberfest Topre got lost in the mail since I already received some days ago my 5 red Esc that were sent later. Also the tracking doesn't show up any update since 7 December.
I hope is just the postal service being lazy because of Christmas.

A Topre board costs over $200, but $90 is still $90, and that alone will buy you a good keyboard.
