QuickFire rapid switches

How do u remove the switches? I want to change my blue with the reds.

You have to desolder them to change them.

Please don't take this as me trying to crap on your thread, but wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy another QFR with reds pre-installed?  Unless you are looking to gain experience soldering, just checking prices over at WASD Keyboards, this would cost you $174 for the switches alone.

No-one buys their switches from WASD, they get them from 7bit over on DT for >half the price.

You can even get them second hand here in the classified for around 0.50 to 0.60$ each. But yeah wasd are selling everything super overpriced, some stuff there is more then double on what you can get from other websites. They are only good if you want to get some custom engraved/lasered keys and thats it.

Thanks for the heads up, and I just saw his prices.  Equates to about a $15-20 savings for a customer in the US, but I have no idea on the cost of a new QFR in Singapore.

you shouldnt ever pay more than $.64 cents for stock switches. now if you get some stickered and lubed switches that is another thing all together. mouser, 7-bit, onlinecomponents.com, and other places offer switches around this price.

Just buy another board...  there's no way you can do this with $30 worth of "your own labor + materials"...

sell your old board for $50 or less $40,  and pay the difference for the MX RED.

I'd say it wouldn't be worth it if you just want reds because you can just go and buy a red QFR for cheap.
It would be worth it to put some clears or whites on it since you can't get those on stock QFRs.

Fellow Singaporean! Its probably more advisable in our country to desolder only if you already have the tools to do so. The price it takes to get the switches and have them shipped to our country is already more that half of what a new QFR would cost here, adding the soldering equipment would already make it more expensive than just buying a new one. Unless you have access to used red switches (which goes fairly cheap), and have someone to borrow the needed tools from, I would strongly just recommend getting another QFR with Reds and settle for 2 boards

What exactly is stickering?

When you open the switch halves and stick a sticker between the switch halves. Not exactly sure how soft the stickers are but all I could think of them doing is perhaps slightly changing audio produced and maybe slightly better feel? or placebo cool points

Actually, both of it, and additional points for reducing the amount of movement between the switch top and bottom housing. The stickers are also fairly fragile because some parts of it run quite thin. A rather time consuming mod that I find worth doing
