Amd Challenges Nvidia's entire stack
« on: Wed, 28 October 2020, 11:42:10 »
AMD 's  6800,  6800xt,  6900xt    neck and neck   w/NV's 3070/3080/3090

AMD enhanced features, CPU + GPU combo. Smart access Memory (Cpu access to GPU memory). + 2 to 13% performance boost

Overall, AMD is definitively a compelling option gpu side.  All while using slightly lower board power.

We'll have to see some ray-tracing numbers, though keep in mind Ray Tracing is still going through the software battle between DX12 and NV optimized API.

Going forward, if we count mainly console optimizations,  AMD should dominate the AAA titles, very distinct advantage in  Forza/ Gears0War.

It's close but the red lines are all bigger in 4k, though the last graph is against a 2080 not a 3070 (no idea which is supposed to be faster...)

The 3070 is -allegedly- @ parity, slightly above with 2080ti,  but AMD can't bench the comparison because they don't have the card.  So they did the 2080 ti.

Overall though, reasonably sure that's why the 3070 is delayed,  Nvidia's prolly going back and raising bios power limits to match/ beat 6800 Vanilla.

Play Arena o' Valor,  it's the greatest Moba on the market.  WAY funner than Lol/Dota/Dota2

Each round only lasts 10-15minutes. Not like other moba which take too long to close.

at this point it's more about the cards you'll actually be able to buy. nvidia is choking so hard right now.

The AMD cards are cheaper and lower wattage, but like Sniping said, the ability to buy will make the biggest difference.
Also if you have an AMD processor then numbers will be even higher.

Regardless of which card is better, competition is good for us.

I'd really like for those number to be the absolute reality but i expect them to be best case scenario, either way it is good for non Windows users to have decent cards to use but i would definitely wait for the reviews before getting hyped and buying all stocks, not like they all only show the best numbers, AMD, intel and nVidia are all culprits in that to generate hype before we know much about the product and then when it is bad we stick with it because we do not like to be wrong, marketing of a ****ty product 101 (cf. Apple), to be fair i do not say it is going to be bad, but it could very well be, we still do not know much.

And is this claimed for peak or average?  If average how much idle vs load time?  If peak how often is it hit?  Like any statistic this is easily manipulated to say whatever you want, though 7.5% hardly seems worth lying for so maybe it's realistic.

Peak.
However no one has had a chance to verify it, everything is still embargoed.

On the other hand AMD tends to be pretty accurate with power numbers, unlike Nvidia and Intel so the difference could be a bit more, especially once third party designs get involved.

Not worried about board power.  but, efficiency means higher clocks.  And when they hit that 5nm , w00t w00t.

smaller node also means lower clocks thanks to capacitive coupling and much faster ion migration (the slow death of a silicon chip) so maybe, we will need to see

From what I've gathered, the 6800 is neck and neck.
For memory demanding stuff the 6800 is faster
For raytracing the 3070 is faster

For everything else buy whichever you can get.

I really don't like the uncertainty around ray tracing at the moment, we don't know which API will win out.

Yeah, RT is now the break point. We'll see.
I was always blue-green fan, but to be honest, if 6800 was better than why not.
However, 3070 at £469 vs 6800 at £530 or whatever the price will be - I would rather wait till 3070 comes out again and go with green.
