Minnesota GH Meet Up - MAY 8TH 2012 6PM at 3 Squares Restaurant

Hello fellow Minnesota Geekhack people! A few of us have been chatting about getting together and figured we'd offer an invite to any other MN people lurking out there.

Bring any sort of keyboards & keycaps that you have for others to try and of course show off any cool things u may have

-inlikeflynn - FILCO browns, G80-1800 vintage black, Red Alert/Ragnarok/Cherry Beige DS's, GH keys if anyone needs them

hey, 5/8 or 5/9 are weekdays. Just talking about dates now anyways, we'll move to whatever works best for everyone

Both Claddagh's & 3Squares are also restaurants, so this wouldn't be an issue

yea that place is good as well. Only mentioned Claddagh's as i've had other engineer/geek gatherings there and they just hide us in the back. Its also louder there so won't have nobody complain about our damm clicky keyboards

If any of you got a cheap/old laptop, you guys could bring it to test run the keyboards. Definitely hang on to your keyboards and know where they are at all time especially if you plan on bringing multiple; we need to come up with some sort of a system to minimize theft.

Are keyboards common targets of theft in suburban Minnesota?

I suppose the keyboard thieves now know where we are planning to meet, and perhaps will try to infiltrate us!

I think the threat is mostly from within - and all of us will be coming armed with deadly weapons we can beat you with.

Extremely common in suburban Minnesota. LOL I don't know, I'm not from Minnesota but then again, I don't think there even is such a thing as keyboard thefts. But this is the first public-announced GH meet so you guys be careful nonetheless.

Yes, biggest threat is from within. Use your keyboard as a weapon if you have to!

Yea, I don't get it either. Pretty much everyone who would go knows what every switch feels like, so that's out, and if you MUST see another keyboard, there's hundreds of pics posted.. So what exactly does the meet accomplish??

Not really true. I've only tried two switches and I'm sure I'm not alone. It'd be kind of pointless for someone who has tried nearly every switch to go; as for the rest of us, it's an opportunity to try out new switches without having to buy the keyboard.

I do meet up with GHers now and again when I travel.  I'm thinking it would be cool to have a special keycap I could give away to any GHers I meet in person.

Once people find out your house number they'll pound on your door day and night for one of those keycaps.

Edit: At that point you should consider investing in a keycap gun to shoot them in the cojones with the keycaps they so desire.

Edit2: These keycaps would make excellent projectiles. Windows key of death/testicular pain.

Looks like the rollback ate The_Ed's post, but i'm sure that G81 mod would be interesting. Any sort of mods are interesting to see. Go ahead and bring anything you are wanting to sell/trade. I'll bring along a couple items to sell/trade as well here before the classifieds. :embarassed: 1 of which has red text :embarassed:

yea I have no idea how much someone might pay for that sort of mod, considering it becomes lighter than RED's keyboard, but its still MY switches...

I'm guessing that it would have to be at least $100 for all the effort involved right? It's a brand new G81-8000HPBUS-2 and all I've done to it at this point is strip the doubleshots from it. I have 2 new 104 sets of lasered POM so I could put one of those sets on it.

Not a huge place. Bar to the left and main seating to the right. Not sure of the size of the group but they'll put us at a bigger table on the right side if we have more than 6.

Shouldn't be hard to find the group. I doubt they'll be anyone else with a keyboard on the table. LOL.
