squeaky keys help!

Hey guys I just got my CM quickfire rapid in reds but the backspace and enter keys are squeaking a lot.  I heard you can fix this by applying grease/lube to the stabilizers.  Which one is the best? Will it damage my keyboard or change the way it feels at all?

This is the good stuff. $5, can't go wrong. Bought some early last year, and it's still almost full.

I live in Canada so it will cost a little bit more to get it to ship here, not worth it IMO!

Is lithium grease the best? Will it change the way my keyboard feel in any way?

You can get white lithium at any auto parts store, I'm assuming that daerid just posted the Amazon link for illustration.

I've been using a tube that I had in my toolbox (been working on my own cars since I was a teenager) and it works fine, if anything it makes the feel of the stabilized keys more consistent with the normal 1x keys.

Johnsen's Silicone Lubricant seems to work on squeaking keys also.

I'm on a KBT Pure with reds and I bought this tube on your recommendation. However, I've never greased a switch before--what part is actually squeaking? Where does the grease go? I assumed it was some part of the stem squeaking internally, so I tried to apply the grease on the inside of the switch with the cap off and the stem depressed, using a pair of tweezers. However, it still squeaks!

Any advice would be welcome Thanks!

I think it's just his stabilizers, The switch might squeak a little but you shouldn't be able to hear that.

I use Super Lube for the stabilizers

I bought a tube of lube from elitekeyboards and it is great.

I have lubed a couple of dozen keys and not even put a dent it in.

Also, the long curved syringe is perfect for reaching exactly the right spot.

Oh, I should have mentioned--of all things, it's my E key that squeaks, whereas the longer keys all sound perfectly normal. Also, pressing the stem with the keycap removed makes no squeaking sounds, but as far as I can tell nothing is coming in contact with the keycap when it's on the board. It's quite confusing!

uh, oh.. You're going to have to desolder.

that board is plat mount, no way to open the switch to lubricate without desoldering.

And theres no way to guarentee that lubrication will fix the switch.


I would call up WASD keyboards, and be like: hey jerks, send me a replacement keyswitch, rabble-rabble.
