What do you do?
« on: Sat, 19 January 2013, 03:02:00 »
I'm just curious as to the career choices of the members here at GeekHack. It doesn't even have to be a career, but if you're holding down a job or working on getting into the field of your choice, what is it? (e.g. working at a retail store, or just spending days at a time writing code to try and create something that might eventually get you a job). Or are you a student? Working your way through night classes while working a part time job?
No need for specifics.
So, I guess ill start:
I personally am a full time student at a university, while working part time to pay the bills and buy keyboards and such. :D

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I'm a programme director with a BSc in Psychology and an MBA. I work in large scale OD and L & D services.
Also spent time as a management consultant and worked in/run businesses from legal services to motor manufacture, telecoms to mail order retail. Even worked with a client running an international shipping port once which was cool.

incorrect term. there are football and american football.

...Rugby Football, Australian Rules Football, Gaelic Football, Harrow Football, etc etc...  Not to mention that the sport referred to above as "Football" or "Soccer" should be more properly referred to as "Association Football", i.e. the game derived from the rules introduced by the English Football Association in the 1800s and now governed by FIFA.

I play ice hockey, though.

I am a programmer (bachelor in computer science) in the Healthcare industry. I develop a software to manage the emergency department (mainly). I also worked a little on a software to analyse all the data in a hospital and improve it's performance. I also happened to learn HL7 and develop some interfaces with many systems. Finally I alse got my LEAN greenbelt this year  :D

Here's my company website http://www.mediamedtech.com/index.php/en/site/accueil/

We are still a small company, but we grow each year.

Falling in Reverse, Skip The Foreplay, Escape The Fate (1st album). The contract just got signed last year, so not terribly too much as of yet, but this year they're going to be throwing more bands our way (the contract is actually with me and a buddy of mine who used to play in Escape the Fate).
