Longest I've ever stayed up was 36 hours playing ragnarok Online...

Afterwards I passed out and I think I slept for 15-18 hours straight

I read up on it later, but apparently sleep deprivation can kill older people.. I would never do that now that I'm old.

The longest I've stayed up was 45 hours. Working on a car all night, had to go get some parts in the morning, then came back, finished the car, then drank until we passed out.

I always stay up at least 48 hours before I fly international every time. Being awake on 12+ hours flights is for suckers.

I used to study (OK, "study") all night long before exams, which meant I was awake for almost 40 hours in the end, but it wasn't really worth it.

My solution used to be to get totally drunk before and during the flight, usually in the airport.  Then pass out on plane.  I just can't handle the booze anymore, so I had to give that strategy up.  But it worked pretty good, as long as you could start drinking again when you landed.  France is the best for that, you can get a glass of wine at 8 a.m., no problem.

Even though I can fall asleep quite easily or sleep anywhere I can almost just as easily stay awake apparently. =P

I almost routinely stay awake for 42-44 hours. For the last two years I would do this a minimum of once every two weeks if not more. I don't actually remember (in recent times) a week going by where I did not indulge in at least one 27 hour stretch.

I hit a few 60+ hour and one 70+ hour stretches within the last 4 months. It's been years since I have gone over about 75 hours. The longest I have ever been awake was around one week, just shy I think, well over a 100 hours though (120-130?). The problem though is after about three days or around 75-85 hours I do tend to have mild hallucinations and a bit of paranoia. But more importantly if I hit three days that awkward point of no return feels like it sets in where it's actually hard to fall asleep! It's very scary, you feel as if you will never fall asleep again. Very surreal. The world seems smaller, insignificant, malleable even. It's rare but sometimes I get this feeling after only 45-65 hours of being awake.

I remember being awake specifically for 87 hours and it hitting me that this was not only brutal but exceptionally dangerous.
My goal is to hit no more than one 40+ hour day per month, and continue to work down from there. The problem I have with this is that I only hate doing it half the time, but I almost always regret it afterwards.

Btw, after that 120-130 hour extravaganza, I was told by a professor that I fell asleep with a powertool on AND running in my hand and they picked me up and set me on top of the classroom table (like a bed) to sleep. Each class came and went that day while I slept on the table in the middle room.

So for the TLDR crowd:
40+ hours awake once every week or two
60-70+ hours awake high average
120-130? hours being the longest I believe I have stayed awake.
Bad habits are hard to break.

Any reason you would stay awake for so long? Also how long would you sleep after like a 60 or 70 hour stretch

Usually just working on projects, I have a hard time stopping once I get going, sometimes not eating for 18-30 hours. Many times it's due to tight deadlines or fixing mistakes. You know that old saying- "There's never enough time to do it right, but there's allways enough time to do it over"? That's my lifes story right there. haahaaa  =P
There are some other reasons too but that's mostly it.

As for how long to I sleep after a long stretch? Hmmm... I think anywhere between 9-13 hours. I tend to sleep for no more than 4 hours a night (I usually run out of time that's why it's only 4) but once a week I sleep for about 9-13 hours. Usually at the end of my work week (whenever the heck that ends up being). I also tend to get really sore if I sleep for more than about 9 hours. Many times I just do the 45min-1.5hour sleep thing just so I can get by.

Like Clack, I hate stopping once I get going.

A few months ago while rebuilding an office I went in at Friday around 4pm (woke at 2), and got home Monday at around 4am. It was about 60 hours, I only stopped long enough to eat on occasion.

Took me about 3 days to recover from it.
I would say never again, but you never know.

Sounds like you are taking Adderall or some other amphetamine lol. I'm surprised you can get by sleeping for such short amounts of time, are you following a standard sleeping pattern, or a non-monophasic pattern?

lulz, no, no drugs for me (contrary to popular belief). =P
I briefly looked through the information in the link you provided since I'm not familiar with most of what you mentioned. I would have to look into it further before I could even say whether or not I can even remotely relate to any of the literature provided.
Having said that though, much of what I read was quite interesting. I tend not to nap, I just stick to one sleeping period (however inconsistent it may be). Sometimes I do indulge in this "power nap" thing so I can stay awake longer but with mixed results. Sometimes it makes me more awake/alert and sometimes it just makes me way more fatigued. I would like more consistency in my sleep and I'm working on it. Unfortunately, I don't hate what I do and it feels natural even though I know it's quite unhealthy.

Thanks for the link, I will look into it more again when I get the chance.

That is pretty crazy CC.

I don't think I have ever been up for more than 24 hours, and even then it probably took me days to recover. I pretty much need my sleep if I want to do anything productive.

I'm getting too old I can hardly go 16-20 hours without falling asleep anymore. Of course if I'm working on a project or building something I could probably stay awake.

I'm usually in bed by 3-4am every night and up by 7:30am for classes. Weekends I'll sleep 12 hours though so I'm not sure that counts

My personal "record" is just under 72 hours, IIRC. Summer vacation when I was about 15 or 16, I just decided to not sleep. Stay awake and watch TV and play video games. Started to hear noises in the ceiling around the third day (Either squirrels or hallucinations) got incredibly freaked out and decided sleep was for the best.

I don't do retarded stuff like that anymore. With a wife and 2 kids the latest i've pulled recently has been 3-4 A.M. but i'm on a much better schedule in the past several months. Generally get to bed around midnight and get up around 8. It's consistant enough that i'll wake up at 9 at the latest even without an alarm on the weekends (although I leave my alarm on 7 days a week, but sometimes my clock gets unplugged or there's a power outage)

It happened to me with the same subject. It was horrendous at every lab class when the profs questioned us, one by one, in front of the class; the entrance tests and specially the endless subject. The mid terms were also fierceless. Netter, Rouvière, Latarjet was all my life back then.
