You know you're old when your wife tells you she's 'late' and it means she's constipated.

hahahaahaha... this is the first I've heard of this...

the most recent one was last week i went to the post office and the lady behind the counter said "you kids, just like my daughter, you don't check your mail", i'm like "how old you think i am", and she's guessing i'm a "20 something"...

this made me happy to be thought of so young!

she had to do a double take and look at my dob (since i had my license out already to verify my address)

then she said "you asians what's your secret!"

i said "hair dye" i'm not even dying it funky colors, just black to hide the greys =(

how old are you actually

Steppenwolf

Whenever I consider complaining about the music that my kids listen to, I cannot help but think of Steppenwolf.

My father hated Steppenwolf.

"Born to Be Wild" had just been released as a 45 when I got my driver's license, so it was an ultimate anthem for me.

Dad loved some of my music (that is, Creedence Clearwater Revival) but he hated Steppenwolf most of all.

They say everything old becomes new again, but... I don't see how 80's music is ever going to come back, certainly not the clothing or the hair. The 70's on the other hand have this weird classic feel that the 1980's just don't have. Eh, Video Killed the Radio Star. LOL, Steppenwolf!

When I noticed grey hairs. When I see crows feet forming around my eyes when smiling. When it takes longer to recover from anything. When I stopped caring about what other people think. Drinking and getting **** faced seems childish now. Started gaining weight so I have to watch what I eat. I could go on an on. haha

I am with you.  I was stoked that I beat my dad on the grey hair (his was completely silver by 27), mine is just salt and pepper at 35.  My biggest thing is getting out of bed and having to throw my weight over because my joints are so stiff that I can't quite bend enough.   :'(  I blame riding dirt bikes since the age 3.

I'm hitting 33 this year and I still don't feel like it. I still feel like I have the same personality I did when I was a teenager. Although I have a family now with the house and 2 cars and all that bull****. But I still don't feel old. Hopefully I never will

again, whole other conversation lol but **** it ill bite. i already had 2 6950s i bought in early 2012, when i was building this i found 2 more 6950s on ebay with the exact same heatkiller waterblocks which they didn't sell anymore and they were only $400 for the pair with the waterblocks which was a great deal, the waterblocks themselves costed like 110$ each when new. i jumped on that and went the quadfire route, honestly i ****ing hate them because i hate amd and regret it but its unnecessary right now to get new cards when everything runs maxed (with a few crashes here and there of the ati driver), maybe late next year.

This.  I'll be 32 in December.  Kids, mortgage, 9 to 5, etc.  But I still feel more or less the same as I did when I turned 22.

I think I disagree. Something really did happen in the 1960s, and it changed the world forever, but that was far more existential than clothing fashion or music (and, by the way, Steppenwolf pretty well came and went in the 60s, although I saw them play for free outside in the afternoon at a county fair in the early 1990s).

I don't think that 1980s music was that much worse than 1970s music, it is always 90% terrible and 10% good. The highs might not have been as high, but the lows were not lower.

Personally, I think that pop music hit rock bottom with disco, but that was more or less simultaneous with punk, so go figure.

PS - you already commented on "Ready Player One" and how it was celebrating the 1980s. Was that a bad thing?

But I still feel more or less the same as I did when I turned 22.

I did not even blink at 30, and sailed past 40 without a worry.

50 hit me pretty hard because I was getting out of shape physically, but I turned it around and improved myself a lot.

60 was huge and I can feel the deterioration continue and accelerate despite my efforts to hold it back.

Citizens United violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president.
So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.”

yes, this book is a good read in such situations.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I get that.  I still feel like I have the same personality as I always did.  I never hit any point where I was like "I'm an adult!".  It's more gradual than that.  You're still you, it's just now you have heartburn if you eat pizza too late and then go to bed or you buy a firmer mattress so you don't wake up with back pain or wrinkles and grey hair shows up in the mirror.   I have a family, house, 2 cars, 2 grown kids and a grandkid.  I'm still just me.  Every once in a while though something will click and it'll bring home that I'm not a teenager any more.  That makes you feel old.
Then you go back to your life and forget for a while until something else brings it up again.

At least, that's how it is for me.

They say everything old becomes new again, but... I don't see how 80's music is ever going to come back, certainly not the clothing or the hair. The 70's on the other hand have this weird classic feel that the 1980's just don't have. Eh, Video Killed the Radio Star. LOL, Steppenwolf!

Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction
Metallica's Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightening, And Justice for All.
U2's Joshua Tree
Van Halen (not Van Hagar)
Bob Marley
John Lennon
Queen
Social Distortion
ACDC
Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Higher Ground was made in the 80's)
Black Sabbath Born Again (War pigs), Seventh Star (Paranoid)
Ozzy Osbourne
Fleetwood Mac
Stevie Nicks

All are still in heavy rotation and some Many of these bands are still making hits today (Mick Fleetwood is still amazing on drums!)

Then there are the ones who largely influenced today's music, such as Oingo Boingo, Crowded House, The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Devo, Soungarden, Mother Love Bone, Green River. There was also some good Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks solo stuff in there too.

I felt old physically in my 20's, I already had bad tendonitis in my knees.
I mentally felt old when I hired my first employee and had to cover my parents house payments when they were out of work. I went from nearly care free, to having several people relying on me in a very short time.

Here it is:

Today is my 61st birthday!

PS -

My local NPR station is about all I ever listen to in the car, and that has been true for about the last half of my life.

Happy birthday! :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Sure, the current generation has Psy and Ke$ha and other pop culture horrors, but dammit, so did my generation.

Indeed. Listening to commercial radio today drives me nuts, but it always did.  Okay, "nostalgia" radio touches the periphery of what I was listening to as a younger adult, but hey.  I'm going grey, my kids are older than some of the guys and girls I work with, and I'm still more punk than anyone I know :)

Mick Fleetwood is still amazing on drums!
which is strange bearing in mind how he learned to play.

Vacuum cleaned my computer today.

It wouldn't post

Half an hour later, I realized I didn't put the ram back in...

I didn't think this would be happening to me so soon.   >:D

What's really bad is when you call tech support and the first thing they ask is, "Is the power cord plugged into the wall?", and you look over realizing it is not.... ;D

Or worse - that the computer's power cord is plugged in to the power board, but the power board's lead is also plugged into the power board (instead of plugged in to the wall outlet).

Call Nasa, You've discovered perpetual free energy...

then again.. it actually does work if it were superconducting.
