I know that there are a lot of people on Geekhack that have pretty cool other hobbies and interests outside of keyboards. There are people here who do rock-climbing, long distance running, we have cable makers, woodworkers, American Football players, gamers, photographers and so forth. Every once in a while we get a glimpse of it, and I thought it would be nice to share. Do you have any other hobbies or interests that you are enthusiastic about other than keyboards?
For me, one major hobby and interest I have has to be bikes and cycling. I have various (road) bikes ranging from new carbon bikes to 30 year old steel frame bikes. Both cycling as a sport, the collection of bikes, and the repair and maintenance of bikes is a major hobby for me that started over a decade ago.
Another thing that you could say is a major interest are traditional Japanese tattoos. One of my friends was obsessed with them, and he passed away before he could ever get one. He would always talk about it. In a way, I feel like I inherited his obsession with these style tattoos. I have not yet gotten even one, since I wanted to wait a few years to make sure it was something I really wanted and to save money to get it done by a well-known artist. Over the next three years, I am planning to do shoulders and chest, and my entire back in one piece. Though I want nothing to be visible when I am dressed. In terms of both the cost and commitment, I think this probably ranks as one of my major interests.
Other things I am into are more related to the work I do, but it is not as colorful or interesting. Though in general math is another thing I like to do. I have a background in math and statistics but am now applying those things in econometric analysis to teach and do research at the University I work at. Though I am much less interested in economics specifically.
So what are your interests/ hobbies?
