the youtube videos are funny, is it really that bad.
The smell of surströmming is much worse than the taste. Fermentation has caused pressure inside the can, and you are supposed to open the can under water, or it could spray foul-smelling juice everywhere.
I have not tried hakar, but from what I have heard it should taste worse than surströmming.
For the love of god don't start posting Japanese food. Like frogs, dogs, cats, and cockroaches on a stick.
I thought that that was China. In Japan, people have traditionally been vegetarians plus fish and seafood.
Just
handling dead animals in Japan is traditionally considered very dirty. Even though modern Japanese eat meat, there is still an underclass in Japan called "Burakumin" (derogatory term: "Eta"), who are descendants of people who had worked with preparing dead animals for various crafts (leather, cat skins and sinews for musical instruments etc.) Japanese people don't like to talk about them much. It is like invisible racism.
