My wife is in trouble for "going overboard" in teaching about racism a few weeks ago. She teaches kindergarten. She basically gave the benefit of the doubt, a few little extra privileges, and extra attention to part of the class for a day. Then at the end of the day sat down with the class to talk about injustice and prejudice, and how bad it hurts, and why it is wrong.

Well apparently two students went home and told their parents that their feelings were hurt. And the parents, instead of entering into the learning process and talking to their own kid about the pain of injustice, went full-on "helicopter parent mode" and filed formal complaints against my wife.

So yeah injustice sucks.

A girl I had been seeing for the last 4 months just all of a sudden decided to start ghosting me, first time it's ever happened.  The whole ordeal has left me feeling extremely frustrated, confused, and depressed, mostly because I really liked her.  :'(

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

reverse racism

Reverse racism is acceptance and tolerance.  Reverse racism is such a stupid term.

It sounds more like idiot patents being idiots. The whole snowflake-ification of kids kills me.  Kids need to learn that life is not fair.  While they should strive for equal treatment, there is nothing equal about making life easier for some kids and worse for others so you don't hurt feelings.

I'll never understand that.  Reeks of immaturity.  It never ceases to amaze me what sets some people off though.  I had one in grad school who couldn't accept that I would become a hermit during finals week because I had papers to write, essays to grade, exams to write, grades to finalize for review by the professor, and a **** ton of other work to do.

Best thing you can do is write a nice little email or text wishing them the best and saying you enjoyed your time with them even if it appears they don't feel the same way.  Maybe add a blurb that you hope nothing happened to them or someone close to them.  Gives you closure and lets you exit add the mature one.

Don't sweat it man. This is a clear sign of immaturity and it's not worth your time getting worked up over this. If she cant be straight forward then you are bound to have issues in the future. Just ask what's going on and tell her you don't want to be led on. Your both adults some kind of understanding can be reached. Four months will be easy for you to try again. Try five years hehehe I die a little inside thinking about it......

Thanks Nubs! I definitely plan on doing that, if only just to give myself some closure and for her to know there's no hard feelings on my part, but I agree with you, it's a very immature act and would have just preferred she be upfront with me.

It works like this..   When the benefits are outweighed by the Costs..   You lose..

Now,  she could indeed be immature, and in that way, we mean she is a poor judge of -long-term- costs, present costs, sunk costs, and all respective returns.

Regardless... if she's ghosted you,  at the very least you are  at fault for mild-negligence in not seeing the inevitable, doing your own relationship accounting...

Relationships Economics FTW..

What do you get,   What does she get..     Count it,  and you will never be in doubt as to why things happen the way they do..

In summary, time to Bust out the yellow note pad.. a bottle of bourbon.. and start to feel better

I can only imagine the type of parent that would file a complaint over this...

My third grade teacher in Virginia did a very similar lesson, giving privileges to those with brown eyes while those with green and blue eyes were largely excluded.

I don't remember many lessons from that long ago but this one stuck with me. Injustice was not something I had really been exposed to. My feelings were hurt a bit too but thats the point!

I hope shes not upset about it!

I'm glad to hear that lesson stuck with you, that will encourage her that her effort isn't wasted.

Very few kids in our school have experienced real injustice, which makes lessons like this all the more important.

So yeah injustice sucks.

reverse racism

Racism isn't a one-way thing.  There is no reverse racism.  I know nubs already said this but whatever.

Aaaaand that's why it's supposed to be funny Hoff. I gotta teach you everything...ugggh

Okay.  Well I actually just met someone that was talking about how reverse racism is a thing and racism is only when white people are being racist, so...

They're probably actually racist.

My redneck brother was trying to tell me about Obama's war on Christian white males last weekend, I tried my hardest not to laugh but it was to no avail :(

Coc is the only school that reviewed my application so yes and it's not ghetto like mission :)). Pierce and the rest near the san fernando valley never looked at my app and calling them is a nightmare. It's more than an hour hold time and then they hang up on me  >:D
