Good news: I found a method to eliminate tinnitus.

Bad news: it works for about a minute.

I've heard it matters in some place called Flint.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Just got an email from my professor for one of my classes asking to meet with me tomorrow.

She just said it was about class and now I am paranoid. I hate when professors do this ****. I can't think of anything I did wrong.

****!

Edit: It was a false alarm. Thank god my professor is a night owl.

She asked to set up a meeting but just left it at that. It is most likely about my last test or a group project we have coming up.

"We'd like to discuss possible synergies with you..."

All this does is flag you as someone that doesn't actually know big words, but instead read the buzzword manual in an attempt to sound intelligent.

No Hoff. If someone says
"We'd like to discuss possible synergies with you..."
It means get ready to find a new job. You are the synergy and you about to be synergised right out the door.

My least favorite "corporate" speak when people say they are going to "setup a cadence of meetings". NO! NO! What you are going to do is setup a reoccurring meeting. Stop misusing words!

In government it's **** like "preparing documents at a 'high level'" or "give them a 'high level' overview" which actually means "lower level" or "dumbed down and stripped of any details and/or contextual information that is relevant to fully understanding the subject.

Haha, that's a great one.  I love when people take a phrase that is perfect for the situation and butcher it just to use "different" words.

And nah, this was a call from a potential vendor that was trying to do business with us, so I'm not concerned.  :P

In government it's **** like "preparing documents at a 'high level'" or "give them a 'high level' overview" which actually means "lower level" or "dumbed down and stripped of any details and/or contextual information that is relevant to fully understanding the subject.

In that usage, "high" isn't used to describe the level of detail, it's more like saying "stratospheric" (high in the air).  You describe the macro happenings of the situation, but not the low-level nitty-gritty details.  It's always seemed a bit counter-intuitive to me, and even more so is dependent on what the speaker really means to say vs what they say.

Ugh, my job has expanded in the last couple years so to try and become more corporate, they have started using words like this.  Our receptionists are now called DOFI, which stands for Directors of First Impression, and they are told to think 'outside the box' and to have more 'touch points' with out clients.  We also had to do a bunch of bull**** tests before tax season started to make sure out 'compatibility' was good.  Bleh.

I have a bit of a dilemma. Probably isn't that big a deal but it's put me in a bit of a quandary...

Basically every year my dad and his brothers and sisters get some money from their dad for whatever reason. This year he has decided to split his between me and my brother. We spoke about it before and me and my brother thought it would be a pretty cool idea to buy ourselves watches.

A few months down the line when I'm not feeling like an idiot, and realising I actually still have £2k on a credit card to pay off, I'm thinking I should put it all on that. But my brother has been making me feel bad by saying that I have to think of the money as if I'm buying a present for myself from my grandfather/dad...

I feel completely stupid buying something with it when I have credit cards, car repairs, KOTM stickers (sorry everyone) to pay for.

It seems like quite an easy decision really but I don't know if it is...

inb4 buy a keyboard.

Wack like 1.7k on the credit card and get yourself a present with £300. I don't want to sound rude but your brother has no say on what you do with your money. It's all your choice.

I'm sure your Dad and Grandad will completely understand that you paying off debts at that amount is a show of responsibility.

Oh, I forgot to say the money is only £750 lol  :)) So I wouldn't even be paying it all off, it would just be a chunk out of it.

Yeah, that's a good way of thinking about it. I have always been awful with money, for as long as I can remember, so paying it off would be a good step for me I think.

Or at least my ex-letting agents returned me the £850 deposit.

I think you should pay it off.  But also chat with your dad about it (not your brother).  Some people are weird about gifting what essentially amounts to cash, but if he really cares about your well being he will understand that paying off your debt is far more important than buying you a material gift - but still best to just run it by him so he's aware, IMO.

I think you should pay it off.  But also chat with your dad about it (not your brother).  Some people are weird about gifting what essentially amounts to cash, but if he really cares about your well being he will understand that paying off your debt is far more important than buying you a material gift - but still best to just run it by him so he's aware, IMO.

yeah, i would pay off your debt and make it a rule to avoid running a balance in the future.  freeing yourself of those debt shackles is far better than any other gift you could buy yourself.
a cute stray cat combination that comes out happily when you look at your face is cute

How long will it take you to get there?

Yeah, I spoke to him. He said about how he wanted me to be able to look back upon whatever I bought and remember the opportunity, but I said I could hopefully do that in a shorter period of time when I get the weight of the debt off my shoulders. I just think that everything I've worried about in the last two years or so has been about money, so I think I will just do that...
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
