Americans always spell favourite, colour, neighbour, centre, honour, labour, defence, cancelling and theatre wrong. (among many others)

It's strange that the USA is the only country in the world not using metric, but the rare times they do, they spell it wrong. (it's metre and litre, damn it!)

The pound is based on the metric kilogramme. Technically we do use a rather sad form of the metric system.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Weird is easy to remember - it is weird because it does not follow the "i" before "e" rule.

I use the word "patio" fairly often for work, and muscle memory always types "pation" presumably because it expects an "n" after "tio"

It's strange that the USA is the only country in the world not using metric, but the rare times they do, they spell it wrong. (it's metre and litre, damn it!)
Which part of this reply has to do with words you misspell?

Or did you want to feel edgy about saying something negative about the US?

Edgy of the day award for you.

Just because we spell them differently doesn't mean that we spell them wrong.  Maybe you should head over to DT they'd probably like you over there.

American spellings are the result of one man: Noah Webster. He deliberately changed the spellings of words. He misspelled them deliberately and published his misspellings to convince others to follow his example. So yes, they are misspellings.

I know - it's not your fault if you were taught that way.

I'll admit that my comment about American spellings was a bit... edgy... but I was good humoured as I wrote it. It was not meant to cause hostility.

I always spell demilk wrong.

Damnit, I meant damilk!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
